Yeah but it makes a good yarn! Our lot were done EUR750 and further abck near Rouen several lots of EUR90.

We managed to avoid the speed traps by craftly taking the car taken back to Le Harve on the back of a flat bed having cooked the Exige's fan during the drivers parade around town.

The Hawiian Tropic girls even polised the bonnet for us - with their backsides and lovely thet were too.

Did anyone see the two guys in their B-days suits being done in the Z3M - priceless!!!! as were the Gendarmes who burned rubber in their Megane, at least they got into the spirit of the whole event!

Felix was yours the House of Colour, coloured car that I chatted to when you were on the parade?
Sorry to hear about the car problem.... I blame those Brazilian Samba Dancers myself, rather than get them to go round they should have been stationary at the assembly point so we could ogle them for longer.

That was Wayne's from Sinclaires otherwise known as 'Blue Bottle' has the Exige front clam and polished Motorsport wheels.

We were in the silver Exige. I actually owe Ted an apology as we did have the Pistonfest sticker on the car along with a few other sponsors - only to start taking them off as we thought that the ACO wouldn't let us in the parade. It turns out that it would have been OK - a real shame as the car was certainly seen by thousands of people there and on TV.

Absolutely brilliant being in the parade - a once in a life time opportunity, a big thanks to SELOC for getting us all in. Even managed to chat to Mika Salo and the Romford boy - who went on to do well in the Bentley.

Just after we stopped at Bernay, we saw about a dozen Brits had been pulled. Luckily we were at the back of the queue of slow moving stuff so passed by without getting pulled.
Did manage 257 KMH or 159.34MPH on the paege from Rouen to Calais!!

Managed to get caught in my Diesel Golf GTi doing 181Km/h in a 90Km/h zone. I'm now EU750 lighter. Copper had the worst BO as well. Not pleasant. Stil, could be worse, last year we managed to write-off a long wheel base Nissan Patrol using a peugeot 106!

p.s. Managed to get 141mph out of my Golf Diesel (25th Anniv) on the way down! Not bad for an old smoker, eh!

Cheers and well done to the Bentley Boys!

It really pi**es me off that foreigners get so easily away from speeding whereas if we french get caught at 180kph on the autoroute we can kiss our license bye bye.
F**k the french road authorities

Pulled over for crossing white line, Bel radar detector on dash, escorted to local police station. Fixed penalty fine of 750 euros + £300 unit 2 weeks old confiscated.
Local plod kindly gave me a lift to the nearest bank which fortuunately produced the necessary, however i was advised that if they could prove i was using the unit they could conficate the car.
Intersting to note i could not find my licence at the time omnly my passport, sounds as if i was quite fortunate. As ive said on a previousl reply we should have never given them the country back in 1944!!

You can't get away with speeding before / after LeMans any more ;(

Pikey, I dispute this! I heard a story from 2 Porsche drivers who got away with it - on the way down on one of the N-routes, the one at the rear spotted a tripod mounted laser gun on the side of the road next to a heavily treed area....his mate was in the process of hooning 5 cars flat out in 4th changing to 5th....so he called ahead, they stopped, did a u turn and headed off down a farm track and got away with it as the federales were waiting at the next roundabout to nick everyone.

I guess as it wasn't a camera but just a speed gun so didn;t take pictures. the law in france is they have to stop you on the spot.....as the caera was green in colour and barely visible I guess they were working on the assumption no one would see it........

Great if it works!

The normal "post-LeMans" trap is to get you at the peage on the short motorway whisking you East of LeMans - and there's no off ramp on there.

Interesting that so many people are reporting the same fine - they obviously have some standards being followed so maybe it isn't all ending up in their pockets!

PS. They really should consider their "customer's" needs.... and start accepting plastic. Would be so much easier allround

Tempting fate here but all I can say is that we must have gone to Le Mans on a different route than everyone else... Seems Thursday morning down and Monday morning back is the time to travel.

Of course, still waiting to hear how much the fine will be having been video'd by a parked up white van on the way home!!!

Yep the Thursday/Monday travel is the way to go if you want to avoid the plod, we didn't see any, and at times the speeds where a bit indecent
Only down side was we didn't see much exotica on the roads, but as if by magic it all appeared in the ferry port

Not that I'd like everyone to come down on the Thursday and so invite the French Police to start nicking us for speeding as well as you 'orrible lot nicking my camping spot, but as fellow pistonheaders are good sorts I'd have to concur, Thursday to Monday is the way forward. I didn't see a single Plod from rolling off the Ferry (Dover) to the Campsite, however, our new boy (1st Le Mans) in a Merc 220 Diesel got the 90 Euro fine, but he'd gone the wrong way and was lost (no other Brits around anywhere). On Monday morning (left at 07.10) I saw the one set of Police Bikes after Alecon but that was it...

Hey Disrepute, how did it all go on the return, no more blowouts I hope.

With reference to your little fracas with 'Les Gendarmes' you might like to view this story:
www.planet-f1.com/Home/story_12137.shtml.

Maybe that's why your 'receipt' shows a different speed!?!?!?!

My Le Mans this year was delayed due to my girlfriend needing at operation - so after 2 weeks delay I thought we would "do" the planned route via Gace and
Le Mans.

All went OK until my girlfriend took over the driving after Gace - nearing Le Mans on the N23 we got stopped
by an unmarked police 'Renault estate' doing 90 mph in a 60..

Fine for my girlfriend was 750 euros (540 GBP) - needless to say she was more than a bit tearfull and
pissed off - as the froggie police ignored the french drivers who were doing the same speed in favour of
our nice GB plated car..

Gotta say the fine was more than a bit steep .. and
I think it's put us off returning to France and Le Mans for quite some time..

Highlights of the trip - pissing off many french by refusing to go over the speed limits..

Returning to blighty..

Finding a better route thru the customs shed at New haven to miss the speed ramps .. and the huge noise
of the SEAC thru said shed..

and seeing a crowd on the exit of the customs shed
- so I did leave it rather sideways.. he he..

It's nice to be back home !

Oh - and I paid her fine ... it was the only decent thing to do.

Just read with some interest about peoples encounters with le flic. This was my first year at Le Mans also. We decided to combine it with a two week holiday in France. Maybe because we did that, and took a more roundabout route to the circuit, we didnt see many le flic on the way there or the way back. We also arrived at the camp site (Karting Nord PCGB area)on the Tuesday afternoon.I had also been warned by friends and others who have been before to watch my speed, so I took it easy the closer I got to Le Mans.
The speeding "fine" you pay is a deposit. If you have a residence in France then you pay the deposit and appear in court. if you don't have a residency there, then you loose your "deposit" has anoy of it put me off going back. NO WAY!! I am hooked!
