Have just been reading the french equivalent of Auto Express (Auto Plus). The good news is that there are only 80 cameras in the whole of France (including 10 sensibly placed in the Mont Blanc tunnel - remember the horriffic carnage in recent years?) Would that the same sense prevails in the UK. The better news is that none of the trad Le Mans routes are "infected" (there is one on the Caen ringroad, though) The article is updated every week, so any PH'ers going across pre Le Mans can update this thread. Might be worth getting a copy of the mag en route to the track for the very latest...
Unfortunately the Gendarmes have other sneaky methods:
unmarked cars (very few), but look for 307/scenic/Xsara/306 in Paris (yep, I know there are one or two of these...), but some have rear mounted cameras.
Hidden vascars - with radio links to a car at the next lights/cross road (seems obvious, if you think you may have been zapped, its time for a detour...)
Officers in civvies loitering at lights (with covert walkie-talkies) looking for minor urban offences.
Police motorcycles in packs (some unmarked) tipping off colleagues further down the road.
There are helicopters/small planes, however these are rarely used.
It's a case of bad news/good news - but with so few cameras (would they send a ticket to the UK?); logic says keep your wits about you, don't try jumping the lights in towns, and don't take the mick.
That's it, By writing this I'm bound to be doomed in June!
