True, makes me very twitchy about buying a car privately these days, and it's still voluntary to register the interest I believe .

I tend to use www.iTextcheck.co.uk now as they have a much better service including finance data.

All finanacial registration with HPI is voluntary....friend of mine has just been hit for 32k by a finance company who didn't register interest in a car.

Hpi guarantee is not very good.....has very strict conditions, and you would not be covered if the finance company hadn't registered interest with them (obviously)

Correct you can't. Check the issue date on logbook and ask questions if its recently issued
