Hmm, the Optima I drove seemed a fantastic car as white-goods type vehicles go. Easily a match for the Mondeo overall and probably better at the things a non-petrolhead would care about.

All I can say is we’ve had a really nice MG6 Magnette in metallic blue, had it from new and apart from a broken cup holder, no issues in over 5 years. Ours was one of the pre reg Motorpoint cars, top of the range TSE for £10995 with black leather, reverse camera, cruise control, heated seats the lot! And no headgasket issues on the revamped engine. Only complaint is that below 4.5k it’s sluggish, above 4.5k it picks its feet up, 0-60 just over 8 secs. It’s our second car now and no plans on selling, it looks nice and very rare with only 600 Magnette in U.K. I fitted 20” wheels and bits of carbon. Apart from normal maintenance it’s cost me nothing more and we got it half price. Equivalent 5 year olds with 36k miles still fetch about £4K or more

Nice post good to see that they're robust as well as being cheap, I have to say I'd have lowered it & fitted 19's but that's because I have a personal hate with wheel arch gap.
