Only commercial class vehicles need a commercial policy for business use.
For a passenger car, regardless of owner, any personal retail insurance with business use and the legal owner & V5 address correctly declared is 100% fine.
It is a very grey area but if the lease is in the company name then the company should be the policyholder. A company can't buy personal retail insurance. However it's been discussed here before where people have rung the same insurer and got different answers. For a passenger car, regardless of owner, any personal retail insurance with business use and the legal owner & V5 address correctly declared is 100% fine.

Deal's only please. Take all the guff outside of the thread (5+ pages of it now).
Sorry moderator. There is a deals only thread. This isn't that.
Just a thought.
Then we'd need people to moderate and act on any transgressions.
Or just be normal people and skip over the posts that don't interest?

Sorry to interject with a basic question but I am looking at a Personal Contract Hire for the first time.
Asked for a quote from a local dealer via contracthireandleasing.com and they called me saying that it's only for people in receipt of car allowance or business mileage from their employer.
Is this correct or just this particular dealer? We will be private retail by the way.
Thanks.
There is one car in particular that nearly always requires those things for a PERSONAL Contract Hire - and that's the Citroen C1.Asked for a quote from a local dealer via contracthireandleasing.com and they called me saying that it's only for people in receipt of car allowance or business mileage from their employer.

The company I got my Merc lease from mentions it on their C1 ads (not seen it on any other car).

Sorry, some more "non deal" BS related to business leases (relevant to the topic?)...
Or as our insurance says simply "the policy holder is NOT the registered keeper or owner of the vehicle"
Also in my experience a company cannot be a policy holder, an individual at the company has to be the named policy holder. We have had both business leased and owned outright vans and I have been the named policy holder on all of those commercial policies. This might not apply to large fleet policies though.

Not at all. Insuring a vehicle for use has nothing to do with who owns it (or leases it). The insurers only need to know who owns (or know that you DON'T own it) it so they can make payments to the rightful owner in the event of a payout. Whoever / whatever initiates the lease, the owner is still the lease firm. Or as our insurance says simply "the policy holder is NOT the registered keeper or owner of the vehicle"

Last thing on this. It's got everything to do with who owns or leases it. As an individual, you don't have an insurable interest in the car. Your company does, as they lease it. The leasing company does, as they own it.
You get away with it because insurance companies don't expect this scenario so aren't asking the right questions.
ETA: From Direct Line: "Company cars should be insured by the company that owns or leases them, as fleet insurance."
