Help on a 535d!!!

Hello All, Newbie to Pistonheads and I'm on Bimmerforums too, I need your opinions! Am in a privileged position to be able to purchase a 5, and have always liked the look/design of the E60. I know, it's completely subjective, but that's me.
Basically, I want a large engine, I've seen a 535d that is a wonderful spec and wanted to know your thoughts on the asking price! Seems steep but it's pretty loaded! Will keep it for at least 4-6 years or so. Here's the link...

Charlie at Wilson auto trade has been fantastic so far, and is doing a full check on the common issues. Is he over charging? Don't wanna miss out on it, am driving it this weekend, also any points I should look for on the test drive would be appreciated!!! Thanks!

Today there shouldn't be an E60 that isn't an M5 for over 12-13K. Find one with spyder alloys and post facelift (2008). For 16K I'd expect swirl valves removed and for it to tell me the winning lotto numbers. If you want an E60 look for spyder wheels post 2008 for less than 12K. If you wanna spend 16K then get an F10.Thanks for that...So what would you pay for it??

I would be really really careful with a E60 535d. These are expensive cars to run and they do go wrong. Turbo failure (they have two), fuel pump failure (they have two), buckled alloys (the wheels on that example are the same optional 19" I had and they are softer than a ice cream left in the sun).
As they get older they seem to lose lots of horses and the suspension becomes as lumpen as a middle aged man.
Mine was an utter joy from new but by the time I sold it 6 years later we had seriously fallen out with each other and the happy memories faded. In reality I needed to spend about £10K getting it back to showroom standard mechanically despite specialist and BMW full service history.
Still want one? Ask before the test drive if they will let you floor it briefly. If not walk away unless you want to risk experiencing limp mode.

I also ran an E60 535d but for 2.5yrs. I did have problems with the turbo actuators on that car and the manifold on a E70 40d but other than that, it was pretty much run of the mill stuff. The cars are getting on a bit now and therefore with age will come more expenditure, but you'd have to replace pretty much everything which MIGHT go wrong to get to 10k and I know people who've run them for a hell of a lot less to BIG miles.
The important thing is that people go into These complex cars with their eyes open.
I really enjoyed both my 550i and 535d E60s and rate them but can't see a reason why they would appreciate at this point in time. For the kind of money we're talking about for the examples shown here, it should F10 all the way.
