Paid deposit for an Audi Q7 on PCP - I want to back out

Agree with other comments - deposit is designed to show you are serious about purchasing the car so they remove it from sale.
You should lose your deposit especially as you decided to do your affordability checks AFTER agreeing on a car and payments.
That's a little harsh I reckon, whilst I agree on a deposit being a commitment to buy which should not be considered refundable depending on the whims of the customer in this case the dealer would have only had the car off sale a couple days and have not lost out on much. You should lose your deposit especially as you decided to do your affordability checks AFTER agreeing on a car and payments.

In 2013 i left a deposit of £500 on a car i was going to buy.
Changed my mind, and after alot of back and forth the dealership would not return my deposit.
I assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that this was fair enough (i was told they had incurred costs, taxed the car etc)
Where do i stand, is it too late to pursue this now? (It was a main dealer if it helps)

You should have asked for a break down of their costs, and then suggest they deduct anything that was reasonable. It's not as if their costs just happened to be exactly £500 (and definitely not more). It's far too late now though, you'd spend absolutely ages even trying to get them to acknowledge that such a situation occurred...Changed my mind, and after alot of back and forth the dealership would not return my deposit.

I hope the OP put some cash in an envelope and gave it to the salesman involved, after all he took up a measure of time dealing with him on one of the most lucrative selling days of the week and in so doing preventing him from the opportunity of earning some commission from a GENUINE buyer.
OP
It's not easy working your way around new to you forums but if you're still in the market for a car (Not so big and expensive) there are some amazing deals and information gathered on this site that you may struggle to find yourself through random searching.
You will notice that you are in the "Car buying" thread, click the "Car buying" thread and it will open up many many topics of PCP and leasing deals that might be more affordable.
