it's a source of serial confusion for me on here that people bother with going to main dealers to price a lease.
My sister, against all advice from myself, has just opted to pay around £350 a month for a fking A220Cdi in such a manner.

She's had a 1.4 Astra for a few years and been desperate to get out of it which I think has unfortunately played a large part in a poor decision. Even after me talking of Golf GTI's etc. and at the very least getting a drive of a few cars first she's decided to pull the trigger.

List price on commercials mean nothing. Discounts of 30-40% are fairly easily available, I've seen 50% off in the past to some fleet customers!

What's confusing about it? Some of them have fleet dept. or can match the deal even if they do standard retail.

fleet won't sell you private customers. I'm not talking about matching the best lease deals that have already been sourced from these hallowed halls; i am talking about wandering in there with no ammo at all and proceeding to spend an entire saturday sat with Kyle whilst he asks you a million questions and repeatedly goes away to "talk to his manager" (AKA sales techniques) and then finally comes back with something which is less than 10% likely to be competitive.

I would suggest it's always worth a few phone calls to dealers. Why go through a broker (and potentially pay fees) when some dealers will match or even beat the broker prices. I spoke to three Audi dealers regarding an S5... two were hopeless but the other gave me a deal that was notably better than the broker offers.

I then proceeded to ruin the deal by adding a bunch of options, but that's my look out smile

If you can get a main dealer to match a lease deal offered by a broker, you may also get a preferential deal on excess mileage. VWFS pence per miles in particular usually seem pretty reasonable, and I've seen some pretty high figures quoted by brokers by contrast.

An important time saving note to make. Excess mileage is something that is fixed and non negotiable regardless, whether it be a Dealer or Broker. The only time excess mileage will differ is if different funders are used.

I hope this helps.

You're a constant source of confusion.

My last lease came from a main dealer, the same price as the broker but with no fee.
My leased FL Golf R estate arrived a couple of weeks ago from a main dealer, nothing else could touch them as the deal was one of the specials.

I think you're point carries some weight in general but not for the special deals.

I think B2CV's post has been misinterpreted.

Of course it's a good idea to go to a dealership to try and get the lease cheaper. The problem is that people approach the wrong part of the dealership and come back to post on here that they got nowhere near the lease deal and spent 2 hours wasting time (which is what B2CV's post is eluding to).

Don't approach the slim-fit suited salesman with clippety-clop shoes and a whole tub of brylcreem in their hair sat at the showroom desk (apologies for the stereotype). Instead, go to their back office and speak to the to less kempt salesman/woman who's dishing out cars by the hundreds every quarter.

Alternatively, sit back with a cuppa and phone 2-3 nearby dealerships, ask for their fleet department and negotiate away (armed with the cheapest online broker deal). It's good etiquette to come back and post details here, providing the dealership is happy for you to do so.

About £1k cheaper over the term here: https://www.centralukvehicleleasing.co.uk/vehicle/...

And please don't point out that their initial rental is higher - that can be changed.

You're right though, the retail guys don't really know about PCH (nor do a lot of Business Managers to be fair). That may well change though as PCH becomes more requested, but most reasonable sized dealership have either a fleet department of local business guy that can do it. Just not at weekends, that's why good retail guys join fleet biggrin

On the face of it brokers and dealers compete against each other, however as you look deeper you'll realise this isn't always the case. As I'm sure Fastbug may agree. The cars have to come from somewhere however the Brokers tends to have access to more funders.

For example in our 12 year history we have built up relationships with various dealer groups allowing their customers more options than your conventional dealer can.

Please fire any questions you have at me. I'd like to offer more of an advice service rather than just posting deals.

Yup, we can quote via MBFS and Arval. However we supply vehicles to brokers via Lex, Alphabet and many more but we don't have the systems to quote via them. At my last place (Renault), we set up a deal via Lex for the Clio yet we couldn't actually quote to supply end users it all went via the broker network. Same thing with a GLE deal last year smile

Surely most of the really really good deals are through the manufacturer's finance arm though due to them pushing it? i.e. the deals we are looking for dealers can get too if they try hard enough? Or can the other funders compete as the cars can be bought at good rates too?
