May I ask a stooopid question ?

Why are lease deals priced at 9 months initial plus 23 monthly ?

What I mean is, why is the 9 months figure taken as an initial lump sum, rather than spread over the monthly payments for 2 years? I know it's easy to work out the total cost, bu why complicate it?

The steering has been improved and is not as bad as some of the early reviews made out. But it is still more of a weekend car. The cabin is tiny and a pain to get in and out of. And that particular dealer has a very bad rep (see Google).
For the sake of balance I used them for getting a Jeep Renegade and they were absolutely fine.
They get acres and acres of 1-star reviews on Google. Seem a bit Arthur Daley.

What, cashflow for the lease company you mean ? Just so they have money up front ? That's not unreasonable, it just seems strange to describe it a 9 months initial rental.

In my experience, most Alfa dealers treat customers like an inconvenience. You might have to buy from them, but I'd never use them for servicing. They all charge top dollar on their hourly rates of course as well.

How else would you describe it? It's not a deposit, as that infers that it gets returned.

I suppose it serves two purposes in that it gets decent cash in to the lender up front, and also reduces the monthly payment to something more affordable. It also reduces risk as the lender has a decent amount of cash up front.

Yeah that's fair. I guess they could call it "initial lump sum" so there is no confusion of the length of the deal, but it makes sense that they would want some cash up front.

It's called an initial or advanced rental. And the likes of Arval, Lex et al don't need 9 up front for cash flow...

Most people only look at the monthly payment, advertise a 3+ deal and the phone won't ring as you're 'more expensive' than everyone that's advertising 9+ deals. Hence why everyone advertises 9+ deals

I recall at some point last year, CVL had a Citroen C1 deal along the lines of 'only £9.99 per month'. Surprised we haven't seen more 200+23 deals tbh.

Just helped my aunty get a decent deal on an in stock Seat Leon 1.4 TSI 150 FR Technology 5dr manual for £189.99 inc vat on a 3+23, 8k miles, including metallic paint. £300 inc vat fee from the broker car leasing online. Probably the best deal going on these at the minute!

It was the only place to actually have any of these in stock (tried nearly every broker and main dealers on what car leasing who all said 20 weeks!) so managed to grab one in metallic black with delivery in 2 weeks. Might be worth giving them a ring if anyone's interested as they had around 4 when we ordered.

Anyone else been hanging out for decent bmw 4 / audi a5 / c220 coupe deals (m sport/s line/amg line)? I've been hoping to grab one of these for about half a year now, but nothing amazing value has appeared when I've been ready.

The A5's have been decently priced, but I test drove one and while it was an ok drive, the look of the new model is dull as dishwater, so I've scrubbed that off my list. A black edition may save it in the future, but they've wrecked what used to be a tough looking coupe in my eyes.

I had no idea the C2xx coupes had had such a massive update. They look amazing and are now in 1st position over bmw. But the amortised costs are in the region of £430 pcm and I'd like to keep it under £400.

That leaves the BMW 420s which are similarly priced to the mercs for 24month deals, but 36month deals see them coming in under £380. I am starting to think I should take the 3 year.

Six months. I'll be honest - you might need to compromise. You say you've been looking, but I have an S5 on a two year lease for less than what you've just said for a three year lease of a lower spec alternative brand car! So why didn't you go for an S5?

If you really have your heart set on something specific you should probably run a spreadsheet of (1) dealer financed PCP (2) carwow discounted PCP (3) PCH prices of exact same car., and draw your own conclusions about whether there's a saving for you on PCH at all. If you save £500 a year, isn't that enough for you to lease now?

3 months upfront at £244
23 x £244
10000 miles
7.5p excess
No extras

Total £6344

Although I might change the alloys as I'm not keen on the knew standard ones andbthink the Brescia look nice.

Where is offering them at that rate? I'm after one and that's miles better than what's out there at the moment

There's a few reasons why I didn't go for the S5. Automatic, they were mainly sportbacks with coupes were few and far between as well as more expensive, the mileage was low and extra mileage surcharge high, uneconomical, higher insurance bracket.

I rarely can compromise if I want something :P I'll likely just throw the asking cost at a 420 if nothing surfaces in the next couple of weeks.

Been away from this thread for quite a while and interesting to see some decent deals at the moment. If you can leave aside the standard issue A4 and Golf R deals, here's two that have caught my eye. Certainly a whole lot better than where we were6 months ago. The Focus is excellent value coming in at 20% of cost, while the MX5 is 30% but for what it is, it's more about the car you get for £207 per month than a stupidly low price.

Two to consider...

Ford Focus 1.0 125 ST Line Nav (3+23, 5k miles)
£152.24 x 23 + £456.73
£298.80 fee
Total = £4,257.05
RRP Value £21,285
Lease value - 20%

Mazda MX5 1.5 SE (3+23, 5k miles)
£207.60 x 23 + £622.80
£240 fee
Total = £5,637.60
RRP value - £18,795
Lease value - 30%

I agree, that MX5 deal is great, but IMO it's in weekend toy spec. I just wish the Sport Navs were working out to be as good value. The SE is just a bit to basic for a daily for me else I'd have been straight on to that.

I don't think you can spec many individual options either e.g. Just add sensors, or am I wrong?

False alarm I am afraid. It was through Lombard Vehicle Finance. Called this morning and the price is hugely inflated and I am not sure why. I was only sign posted to it because a friend who work their quoted me the £244 and referred me to them as he works at Lombard. Oh well.

If my memory of Mazda still holds across the range, then you might be right.

"Do you want any options other than metallic paint sir? - Then you'll have to buy the next model up"
