Haven't had the verdict from the VW dealer yet...good call on the house insurance we have legal cover. I'll go there if things go bad, see what VW say first.
Cheers
Hope it goes well. Had two experiences myself with BMW.Cheers
First on an E46 coupe which i'd had from new when they were first released. Kept it as the family run around after I changed car and 6 years in the rear suspension went through the supports. They fixed it free of charge
On BMW 6, HUD played up throughout the first 3 years of ownership. Year 4 problem reappeared and they finally found the correct comms unit to replace, BMW refused to cover it forced me to pay the warranty excess and never bothered to call me back after I complained :/

First call back, our master technician cannot find the fault, he has taken it for a test drive and can't get it to slip, there are also no leaks or signs of damage...First on an E46 coupe which i'd had from new when they were first released. Me: ...erm so I told you when I dropped it off that if you sit at 40 then boot it in 6th up to 60 the revs build then drop back down, can you ask him if he tried that please
VW: Do you want to come and take him for a test drive in it?
Me: What time do you close?
VW: 5:30
Me: I work until 5:30 and I'm 35 miles away...can you tell him to go out and try what I said please?
VW: OK
Do I get commission on the fault diagnosis work for them do you think?

It's not bad, I'm currently in a Warrior on a 3+35 from Mitsubishi for £235/m (does include towbar and canopy) Also only white is free, in which case you can come across as a utility company refugee.!born2bslow said:

For the HUD issue I took it in a few times and they couldnt replicate. Despite my having video's BMW insisted the servicing dealership (who were very apologetic and ensured I had an albeit crap courtesy car everytime) had to see the issue before they'd authorise any in depth investigative work. Eventually I had to drive unannounced to the dealership the next time it happened and leave the car running (as sometimes switching it on/off resolved the issue).Me: ...erm so I told you when I dropped it off that if you sit at 40 then boot it in 6th up to 60 the revs build then drop back down, can you ask him if he tried that please

Anybody considering a manual Golf R think about maintenance.
Mine's gone in for them to investigate clutch slip, and I've been told if they can't find a manufacturing fault it will be over a grand...23k miles for a clutch is not good enough. Can't even get it done by a specialist because to strip down assess and rebuild they said £570...got me by the short n curlies.
My response was, if that's the result I won't be spending any more money on VW cars...I'll speak to VWFS if that's what they come up with...I was considering buying one at the end of my lease in June, don't think I'll bother now if they're that fragile. I don't think I've driven it all that hard, and in 26 years driving I've never burnt a clutch out by misuse.

I'm also not surer maintenance would cover that under 'fair wear and tear' as a clutch should last a lot longer than that. Mind you I've seen them shagged in way less than 23k from people slipping or side stepping the clutch

Looked at lease deals and didn't see any great ones. But would consider it as a lease instead of the Cayenne as a purchase, if the deal was great. Reluctant to purchase a diesel (going for petrol Cayenne) as I think the politicians have done their typical routine of herding the masses into the diesel pen and are now vilifying them in preparation for the blood letting!
I've also looked at F-Pace, but unless you're willing to settle for a 2.0d engine the lease cost vs list price is pretty poor. Sames goes for Audi and Mercedes. Maybe leasing isn't for me after all.Frankstar123 said:

It's due back beginning of June so 8 months left...I was going to have to call VWFS anyway as I need to increase the mileage (currently only up to 25k)
If it gets stolen/written off it's problem solved as he said it would be their insurance that covers the car while he's got it.

I'm looking at Octavia estates too as a family load lugger, currently aiming for sub £200 amortised as well.
Anyone have any feedback on the current engine choices?
Whilst the VRS would be nice, the hefty deposit (£2400 for most) is off-putting.
1.4 = Old engine, longer lead timesAnyone have any feedback on the current engine choices?

1.5 = New Engine, better economy with cylinder shutdown.
Same Power
I got the 1.5 TSI SE Tech at £180 I think, amortised, from Blade Skoda in Bristol (and free mats )
As said above, we would need to add £10/20 p/m for Red (to match my GTD Estate) or Metallic (if she prefers) as the blue is awful!
Currently looking for an SUV for my mum, what do people think of this GLE offer? Seems like a good deal on a £50k+ car

Been looking at one of these also. Verry close to pushing the button. Simpsons have essentially matched at deal I saw at Nationwide Vehicle Contracts.Octavia VRS 245 DSG + Meteor Grey + DCC (reading reviews it will knock your teeth out without it). 8k pa, 24 months. £2300 down and £230 a month. That is one hell of a lot of car for the money. I'm currently paying £230 a month on PCP deal for an Octavia 1.6 TDI Black Edition !
Anyone seen any better?
I guess if I was being sensible a normal TSI or TDI VRS would do but for £700 difference over the 2 years does not seem worth the saving.
Is this better?

£200 more in total when you take off the DCC and Paint ... I'm now thinking just stick with the read paint then it's £215 a month. The Grey does seem a bit of a marmite colour and white is everywhere. I think black the only other option on the 245.Skoda Octavia Hatchback 2.0 TSI 245 vRS 5dr DSG

I'm also close to pulling the trigger on a 245 estate, but I'm cautious when it comes to getting things on credit - paying the monthlies and initial isn't a problem, and I'm sure I'd be fine, but the thought of being declined puts me off.
