For anyone patiently waiting for VW to release Golf deals I can heartily recommend jumping all over a GTI if available. Picked up my GTI DSG on Friday and loving it, last car was a GTD so not that different but the petrol engine just feels so much sweeter. New nav and active display also nice enhancements.

Some Ghiblis were not specced with steering-wheel paddles (for manually changing gear) as standard, and are a paid-optional extra, so check any models have paddles fitted, if you desire that kind of thing.

Just took delivery of my 5008 from Neva Direct. Had never heard of them before but they've been really good to deal with and would happily recommend them. First contact to delivered via transporter in 20 days thumbup
Finally got ours ordered today (for May) but their pricing is only available to business users now I think
Very nice. We had to do a factory order as wanted petrol, so should be with us in Jan.
You going for the 1.2? I test drove a 3008 with the 1.2 petrol and it was surprisingly capable of shifting that car around town - pulled off the line at lights really nicely. Didn't get a chance to do a motorway test in it though - I worried that it might struggle a bit to pull a loaded 5008 at those speeds.
Yes, we are. Haven't tested one, but the data looks OK and dealers say we need to rethink how we view smaller engines (lighter car etc).

The car looks great though and should be spot on for what we want for a couple of years.

I would agree on the ghibli spec. In basic form it's not the best. The only thing I would say is that Maserati are not charging the full value of options across the lease but are instead taking into account the residual values which not many manufacturers do. Based on this you should be able to pick up a car with some good options for not too much above the £430 baseline. As I mentioned before Maserati are pushing the deals quite hard so you might be able to squeeze a bit more out of them

As for the quatroporte it's by no means a cheap car but given some of the cars have have been spec'd up to roughly 90k it's a good deal given the depreciation over 2 years is way more if you were to buy new. It's really dependent on what you're looking for. Compared to the deals on merc s class which is quite a bit cheaper the QP is a good option if you're looking for something a bit different

I'm definitely tempted by the QP (not so much the Ghibli). But the next car needs to be a two kid car, which i'm not sure the QP is :/ Don't want to pay the best part of £10k year and regret the decision every time I have to load/unload/etc.

I'm definitely not of the opinion that smaller engines should be a problem in general (turbocharging is now minimising a lot of the downsides) but I would suggest that we educate ourselves rather than listen to anything the dealers say. Dealers will generally say what they need to get someone to buy/ commit. Most are not 'car people' and are in there to sell and pick up bonus. Nothing wrong with that, but if you are on PH you take more of an interest in cars than the majority of dealer salespeople do. Test drive to be sure. BS the dealer as needed to get behind the wheel. DO NOT mention cheap lease deals until you have finished the test drive!

The only thing I've found with smaller turbo petrols is the lack of power low down - a bit like a diesel, but perhaps a slightly broader dead spot. It just takes some recalibrating. Certainly a 1.4 turbo Astra I borrowed on holiday was absolutely fine up to 80mph (or a bit above). You'll not be racing Aston Martins down slip roads, but the performance is fine.

In fairness to our local dealer he offered us a test drive AFTER we asked him to price match, as they only had one in the showroom at the time he said we could have a test drive anyway. He did want a copy of our offer so he could show his Peugeot rep and say "this is what we are competing with".

He did know we are going to get ours serviced with them which is possibly why he offered the test drive.

The Skoda Karoq interests me a fair bit - what lead time are people being quoted? And what's the spec like on those? I keep flip flopping between various cars at the moment...
We've been quoted 12 weeks on ours. The chap we ordered with reckons this will increase to circa 16-18 weeks once test cars are released to dealers. I spoke to my local dealer today and they are due to have demo cars in in mid January.

Spec is ok as standard. Only one colour is availble without charge (Energy Blue) which we've gone for (supposed to be a "cheap" car for us). With the SE Technology which we've ordered you get sat nav, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control along with the usual these days (led drl, heated folding mirrors etc etc).

Really feels wrong saying this, but I'm starting to feel some sympathy for my local dealers biggrin That really is saying something, as I live in West London and collectively they've been rude/dismissive/uninterested in providing basic service let alone considering matching a deal. Guess they have had far too much business over the years.

Yet in the last couple of months local VW dealer matched the Arteon deal and MB dealer were prepared to match a deal for my Dad (who isn't a renowned negotiator biggrin ). Times really must be hard if my local dealers are entertaining matching let alone coming with a country mile of a good deal :O

Pretty decent spec. Too early for me just yet, but I'd definitely be interested in one next year - to be honest add an electric boot lid and heated seats and that's everything my A4 has on it.

What price did you get if you don't mind my asking? (sorry, you've probably said, but this thread is a bit of a sod to search)

Was tempted by the electric boot but can't really justify the extra £500 just for a toy. Heated front seats are only £200 option i think.

We got 9+23 for £170.41 including the park assist (no fees). Was tempted to go for the bigger wheels (17's look a bit small) but can't really justify the extra just for vanity.

Happy with the deal overall. We're selling off our old Mk5 Golf GTI to make way so will be far more economical/cost effective overall than that.

That's a great price. I have to say I think the smart money in this sector goes to Skoda these days.

And yeah, the boot is a lot of wonga at £500 - but I have it on my A4 and I really like it. I'm a bit sad.

Does the GTI feel fast in the 'real world' or did the GTD with all the torque?
Imagine the petrol is way sweeter though.

I think they are one of the most ridiculous things on current cars, saw a bloke with one yesterday, it took him longer to open the boot than it does to open and close one manually. Complete waste of money.

Just took delivery on Friday and covered about 100 miles so its early days. The GTI was delivered in Sport mode which adds a rather noisy "sport" sound. I am all for sport sounds but in the first mile I thought they had given me a diesel and that my old GTD was quieter. Switched that off and its much better. In real driving the GTI does feel quite torquey like the GTD, my GTi is DSG whereas the GTD was manual so there is no wait for it to select another gear. It does pull very well and is sweet, obviously revs a lot further than the diesel although haven't exploited that as its so new. Overtaking perhaps needs a gear drop where the diesel didn't but other than that which is minor I'm happy with the GTD to GTI move.
