The Golf R deal isn't terrible, it's not a great deal but it's circa 35% of RRP over 3 years which is considerably lower than it has been all year. If it wasn't for the earlier insane deals from a couple of years back I think people would generally be a lot more positive.

I don't think anyone can really blame VW "hyping" it, all they did was notify of upcoming deals in the face of customer queries and then the forums (not just here) did all the hyping themselves.

Will be interesting to see if dealers chuck some of their own margin/incentive at the deal - for example giving you 6+35 monthlies at a 3+35 profile by paying some of the initial rental themselves. It's not that uncommon these days, it's at least partially what's behind the cheap Cupra 300 deals.

Exactly this - I made a similar point a few pages back. My Golf R lease in 2014 was 207 a month with met paint and a mate had one at 178 a month with 5k miles. We have also seen Golf GTI's at 110 a month with 9 months upfront. Currently my wife has a Polo GTI at the min at 134 a month.
These deals warps perspective on the expectation of new 'great' deals.

I still think the 25% or less view is the best when trying to make sense of a deal.
25% or less consider
22.5% or less go for it
20% area - snap their hand off

I guess the only issue there is the RRP vs figures on carwow, drivethedeal etc.

My 4C Spider deal is roughly 20% of the discounted retail price of the car at £399.95 on a 10 + 23. I went for it as there was nothing even remotely close in it’s class for the same figures.

I’ve usually bought cars outright with finance arranged via my bank but after the running costs and bills of a few high performance cars I decided to give leasing a go.

Not a bad deal on an A6 here:

https://www.contracthireandleasing.com/independent...

Based on RRP it comes out at circa 20%, 27% on Broadspeeds figures.

Another thing that I would add is that the % deal works well, but in some market segments it is less of a guide. For example, Premium SUV's are very rarely discounted to such levels (Range Rover, Cayenne, X5, GLE etc) so in those segments, a 25% deal may well be a "snap their hand off" deal.

Likewise, other segments see these deals with regularity, for example the compact saloon/hatch such as Audi A4, Octavia, Golf etc, so the % may change.

What I'm saying is that as long as YOU are happy with the price you are going to pay, then go ahead. Another useful benchmark is to calculate if it is cheaper than alternative ways of owning the vehicle. PCP, bank loan, used approved etc....

Even worse when you read the reviews of that engine and gearbox combo. I've got a quote for a 150ps in white that's £290 or so a month, but I'm hoping Listers' improved deal will be somewhat cheaper. I may be inclined to see what Q1 2018 brings, though. This quarter's been quite disappointing.
Salve AR...recall a few pages back we discussed the Tiguan deals...I had one back from Crewe VW (came from UChoose) and they've quoted slightly higher than the online indication. £335 on a 3+35, 8000miles. What's your 290 quote based on? I'm ready to pull the trigger on a deal now that the VW "deals" have come out.

Did anyone order the Peugeot Traveller deal that was posted here a while back through VehicleSavers.com?

Just got an email saying that its been delayed:

"It has come to our attention that there has been a big delay on Peugeot Travellers being built. We have been informed by the dealer that all of our orders have been pushed back in to next year. We understand that this is not what you or your customers want to hear but on this occasion we are totally at the mercy of Peugeot and their factory. Please see the below that I have been sent from the dealer regarding this situation.

“I have also spoken to Peugeot Supply & Distribution regarding the situation, they have advised that the only updates they have at the moment are the vehicles are due to go into production early next year and can’t give any further information, which is understandably not acceptable for you to update your customers. They have advised that your customers can contact Peugeot Customer Care 0845 200 1234 if they wish to discuss the matter.”

If your customers wish to contact Peugeot directly then they can do on the above number (0845 200 1234), they will need to quote their factory order number."

Now they want me to chase up Peugeot? What am I paying there above average £360 admin fee for exactly?!
Hi Skaif,
Yes I ordered the Traveller end of August with Vehicle Savers. I too received the same email as you. This was contrary to an email from them a couple of weeks ago stating it would be ready for delivery in mid December.
I need a car for Christmas at the latest so I’m very disappointed.
Contacted Peugeot who can give nothing other than they may have an update in January. Asked for a courtesy car which they said to ask the supplier... asked Vehicle Savers and they said contact Peugeot. Asked for refund of the £360, as I was promised the car for Christmas at latest, which I got a point blank no so am stuck waiting. An offer of a switch to an in-stock deal would of been better than nothing.

Anyone has any info on the VRS 245 situation, the deals are still being offered at around 7k with 15k a year which is not that bad, but are they not canceling some of the orders?

Since these mega cheap lease deals appeared a couple of years ago (?) I have wondered if it was almost a loss-leader to get people away from PCP to renting.

Then gradually up the costs to where they should be for a new car.

In my family there are now 5 people leasing new cars at cheap prices, 3 years ago they were in second hand cars paid cash or PCP.

Most of them wont want to go back to cash & second hand cars................................bingo.
Yep ditto here too!

Apparently they arent.

Apparently they are clearing up the order books and dealer cars are being cancelled, not customer ordered cars.

Doubt it, if that was the case they would have dealers more interested in supplying leases. Most dealers concentrate solely on PCP for personal.

The good deals will be just to get some volume out there in short bursts when they need it without compromising the showroom pricing structures long term (which if bigger than normal discounts appeared without an excuse such as black friday, old models etc people would expect it all the time). I don't think that many people know much about PCH, and even fewer will think its a good idea vs buying or PCP (the "I have paid £5000 and I don't even own it" brigade who will buy a car and lose £6000 on it in the same period).

The thing is when deals are pre hyped they are never as good as they are when they are a surprise. If they were that good they wouldn'd need pre hyping!

Yes, it varies by segment and brand.

Cheap cars = 10-25% of RRP is good.
Expensive cars = 15-28% of RRP is good.
Supercars = 25-30% of RRP is good.

I think you've mentioned your deal before - that's not the normal sort of price, didn't you get pretty well the last of the old Touaregs available?

Got one of the cheap scirocco leases 18 mths ago - now struggling to find anything of its type for less than £200/mth - thinking about dipping back into the 2nd hand car market for a while unless a good deal on an interesting car comes up.

Still waiting for Ford to do a silly deal on a mustang - i may be too old to drive by the time they do that though frown

Excellent thread - been lurking for a few weeks.

Currently leasing a Jag XE diesel through work, which goes back in early Feb. For those contemplating the XF deals, my XE has been great. Few minor recalls, but totally reliable over the last 29k miles. XE spec is in line with the Germans, so quite a lot wasn't standard (split fold seats, folding mirrors, front parking sensors, reversing camera, folding mirrors). Spec on the XF seems more generous.

Leaving the company scheme as taxable benefit value of the car has shot up, so now cheaper to do a personal lease. From an outsider's perspective, current deals are cheaper than PCP and cheaper than salary sacrifice scheme at work, so leasing looks like the way to go.

Most sensible choice at the moment seems to be an A4, but wife wants a small-ish premium SUV this time, which has led me to the Tiguan on a 9+23 or 35, though also keeping an eye on Q3 deals. New XC60, Renault Koleos and Merc GLC also look good, but work out a lot more expensive. Don't want anything too wide as underground car park at work is a bit of a concrete nightmare. I would also look at Skoda, but she wouldn't.

Best Tiguan deals are all diesel - today's budget looks OK in that regard, and as I'm currently doing 12-15k a year mostly on the motorway, diesel still makes sense. Looking at SEL or R-Line. Want DSG as my daily commute is 30 miles each way on M25.

Same... I don't see it happening though, RH Mustangs are not being over-produced right now.
