Man up buddy. Who honestly gives a f&*k what you drive. I'd be more concerned whether can you do the job you're being paid to do. Infact the sttier the car the more I'd know the person is rock solid sure of themselves.
Very noble, but sadly life doesn't really work like that.
It can work the other way too - showed a bespoke kitchen consultant the exit after a couple of hours last week after he turned up in his 65 plate RR. Said all the wrong things to me i.e. he was too bloody expensive!!

Talking about old Mercedes and image I had a strange set of experiences years ago.

I work in construction as a pipe fitter, just a manual hands on role. I turned up at a job one day and the guy on the gate was acting strange, couldn't quite put my finger on it but he was sort of standing to attention, went out of his way to find me a parking space.

We were doing something outside later on and I needed something from the car, unbeknown to me a delivery guy had turned up, he did what he had to do and then walked past the site agent, past the owner of the building, past my boss and came to me to have his delivery note signed. Very strange I thought. we just could not figure it out.

A few days later I went to another job, similar thing happened when arriving, a labourer/yard man making sure I found a parking space. I asked the lad later on when I got to know him a bit better why he had gone out of his way to sort of meet and greet me.

It all clicked into place then when he said 'that bloody car of yours, it looked like there was somebody from head office turning up to check on us, you must be loaded driving an expensive car like that, how much was it £20/£30 grand?'

It was a Mercedes 260E ,about 1990 vintage,a cheap private plate had been left on by a previous owner, it was a good looking car but stood me at the grand sum of £1400.

I found it fascinating how people judge situations on first impressions.
