I thought it was EU rules that meant all manufacturers had to offer LHD and RHD models for the same price to customers in any EU country?

like if I wanted to buy a RHD Merc in Germany they weren't allowed to charge extra or add extra delays etc?
I recall exactly the same thing, but I couldn't find anything on an internet search, so assumed I had mis-remembered.

I have in the past have had the odd enquiry to price up and supply a LHD version of what I sell (nothing like Bentley, just a standard run of the mill European manufacturer), prices are different to UK cars as is spec.

We give details of the UK spec that the customer is after and it is as closely matched to a LHD version, so basically it isn't a UK spec car with the wheel on the left, it is an actual LHD car and spec with associated pricing to reflect the spec available.

The customer doesn't get any UK incentives such as cheap finance, deposit contributions, "cash" discounts, any promotions etc, it is just the standard margin, the registration doesn't count or pay towards dealer targets either, so it is literally just a sale for the dealer and nothing else.

The whole process just to get pricing and spec details is a ball ache and I have never got any further than enquiring about spec, if anyone enquires about us supplying LHD cars I try my best not to get involved but the last time it happened was a good few years ago.

Very odd thread, especially as the OP has proclaimed elsewhere a very unremarkable income, magnitudes away from being able blow over 200 grand on a Bentley for a second home in Spain. Also has a very un endearing "give me answers now you peasants, I've not got time for small talk" posting style. Almost as though he's trying to act how he thinks a hot shot with that sort of cash would.

So a Lottery winner, bank robber, or just a bullstter.

Wasn't there a similar issue back when the Pound was strong against the Euro that Porsche did not allow for non UK/Ireland based dealers or customers to order RHD cars?

Depends on brand, Merc and BMW supply LHD cars to UK spec and UK price list (you can't order a non UK spec if you wanted). No finance but discounts are usually available.

10% deposit,
Build car to required spec.
Pay balance
Drive away

How simple is that.
Simple, but the deposit alone would be over 75% of the annual take home pay on your stated salary, so you must surely understand people's scepticism.

Why would it be cheaper (we're talking about new cars of course)? If I bought a LHD car here I'd have to pay same list price as a RHD car, with some manufacturers offering 0% discount while others being open to negotiations. I'm not surprised many manufacturers stopped supplying LHD cars since even before pound got hit last year people were buying them here importing them to other EU countries and that worked out cheaper than sourcing locally most of the time.
Right now these Bentleys are more expensive in Europe than the uk, is what i meant.

My money is on the last option.

I assume if Bentley aren't giving him the time of day it's because they've come to the same conclusion (if he's actually been there and discussed this with them at all).

OP what do you drive at the moment?

This thread has been dormant for 5 years so I just wanted to see if the situation has changed.

Now that the GBP/Pound is weak, new cars are considerably cheaper in the UK (and in many cases far better spec) thank those ordered/purchased new on the continent. Living in central Europe, list price here is some 10-20% higher than in the UK. It would make financial sense (if you can get round the paperwork, lead times, etc) to buy an LHD car in the UK for ultimate registration and use in Europe.

Now that we're out the EU your first question to a dealer is will they be able to supply a LHD car, manufacturers these days, Bentley included, try and protect their different regions from pump out/in. That said maybe if orders start to slow down they might be glad to sell to whoever they can.

There is also all the VAY and Tax implications of brexit to deal with. If the UK dealer is not set up for exporting, which i doubt many are, then you will definitley run in to trouble on the VAT front.

It will also have to be sent abroad on a transporter which is additional costs.
