5k Gti replacement ideas
Discussion
Funny how this thread has been put up as only yesterday I was talking to my mate about how cheap my MK5 GTI is to run, and returned just below 40mpg on a trip that morning.
It's done 138K miles and has cost me next to nowt to run.
Do some actual calculations, not man maths, to help to get your OH to understand the logic. I'd hazard a guess that selling it would be a false economy

Same, I haven't reset the 2nd trip for 1800 miles and it's sat at 29.4 mpg. It pretty much does stop start city centre traffic every journey, and gets booted whenever possible, I'm very happy with just under 30 in those conditions. It does about 5mpg less than a 2016 twingo which has approx 3bhp.
All cars reach a point where they are worth more to you as a known quantity than they are to anyone else.
Sell your golf privately and I'm afraid you're at the end if the market where you can have some very unsavoury characters turning up at your house, kicking the tyres, going on a test flight, relieving you of your cash sale proceeds etc. Then to buy the replacement privately is another lottery.
If you're part-exing and/or buying from a dealer, they'll be looking for a grand profit on each transaction, and still won't be much use on warranty issues. So you'd be swapping 5k worth of known quantity for 3k worth of uncertainty.

I nearly bought a mk5 GTI but a tidy MK1 Suzuki swift sport came up near me and thought it ticked all my boxes after a test drive. ideal for a short commute across town as a second car.
If you really want to save money I can recommend one, cheap to insure & Tax, cheap to run. and they are great fun to thrash about town/country lanes. provided you don't do much/any motorway miles. not the best with only 3 doors and a small boot. depends if you have another "family" car to take loads.

Or because in some relationships people are 50/50. If she was 100% in charge it would be gone and if i was i would never have posted this thread in the first place. I was after car advice, not relationship judgement.
Ok, so what stuff do you demand/suggest that She gets rid of to save money? If it's 50/50 this must have already happened or is due to happen and be rebuked.Always interested in these couples that "are 50/50" and pretty much always turn out that the bloke just does everything that the Woman wants. Well done for standing your ground (for now).
Awaits thread: "what cheap to run car to buy"
