No one is passing it on as normal we just live in the real world where you can't do much to unwind the deal. People lie all the time, unfortunately you have to be cynical or get eaten alive. I've bought a car that was fked did i go back whinging to the seller, no i sucked it up and got on my life. Adambart84 said:
Yea I am a total bad ass because I have someones address that he told me, whats your point?
Also I have no problem with the guy doing business, but I absolutely hate dishonesty and am even more annoyed by the amount of people on here who seem to pass it off as normal or 'business'
It's not normal but you had to look at the car not what he was saying to you as I said the log book having the yellow slip missing, a long test drive & a thorough check over would have revealed the issues. Also I have no problem with the guy doing business, but I absolutely hate dishonesty and am even more annoyed by the amount of people on here who seem to pass it off as normal or 'business'
You missed them (which is not the guys fault) so now you have a bill that you didn't want/expect straight away but that's the price you have to pay when you don't check a car out thoroughly.
Most people on here will have been bitten by this sort of thing at least once & while I'm pretty sure everyone of us was pissed off, eventually everyone just gets on with sorting out the issues as you accept the only persons at fault is yourself, it's a bitter pill but hey that's how it goes sometimes.
Why would a personal visit result in argie bargy?
At least send a written letter to his address detailing the events, that you know he's a trader who's punted duff stock onto you, and that you expect a resolution. Then back that up with a moneyclaim against him.
Do you have his correct address or was that fraudulent too?

If you had done your due dilligence and typical checks which should be completed when buying any car you would have spotted the airbag fault, the keeper situation and the fact the MOT was due.
You haven't been scammed, you just left yourself wide open by not checking the car and documentation over adequately unfortunately.

Well they say £285 but I see similar ones advertised on gumtree etc for about £1400, so its hard to know what its worth.
The idea of removing the bulb did cross my mind but I just couldn't take that risk that someone could be hurt or killer just so I could save a few pounds. It seems I have little choice but to do what needs done and get it through the MOT.

Or just flog it on with faults declared.Have you got a fault code reader ? It might be worth trying to clear it first
With regards to your old car, do you still have the v5 ? It might be worth registering the car to his business address and if you want to be really cruel make a typo on the postcode so it when the v5 is posted out it goes elsewhere... You can do it all online too.
When your a trader and you don't have the v5 it's a pain in the bum.

Well there is a receipt for a service that was done about 2 months ago where the mechanic has written at the bottom faulty squib, airbag needs replaced, although I assume if I do go ahead and replace it myself then I will still need the lead to reset the fault code.
I still have the v5 here, although to be honest I just want to sort the car out and get rid of it at this point

There is actually nothing in writing to say this deal even took place, he didnt say he was a dealer so I wasnt really expecting any of this I was honestly more interested in getting my car all sorred out so he wouldnt have any problems with it, I think its fair to say I have been well and truly had
