Well there is a receipt for a service that was done about 2 months ago where the mechanic has written at the bottom faulty squib, airbag needs replaced, although I assume if I do go ahead and replace it myself then I will still need the lead to reset the fault code.

I still have the v5 here, although to be honest I just want to sort the car out and get rid of it at this point
Scrap yards generally sell airbags, and usually have someone who they call upon to fit airbags if required. Might not be as expensive as you think.

Yea I just found a guy that is going to give me one for £50 and I should be able to fit it myself. Then the central locking needs a new solenoid I think which I can also do myself and a few other bits and pieces it might work out okay

Cant be much wrong with the central locking. I'm sure theres info on the net on how to identify and repair the fault.

Well one of the doors dosent unlock at all, so im going to take it apart tomorrow to see whats what, also it often takes a lot of button mashing to get all the doors to unlock although I believe this may be a setting on the keys that I can get changed. There is surprisingly little info on the Mk3 Toledo online I guess it wasn't a very popular car.

Its the same as the Leon, if its like the rest of the vag range sometimes the central locking module is built into the window motor. What did you do with the V5 to the car you were selling ?

One press of the unlock button just opens the driver's door. Two presses of the unlock button opens all the doors. It can be changed using Vagcom / VCDS to open all the doors on one press.

...Either that or drop it into a small family ran independent garage. Remove the bulb for the airbag and pass it on. Might seem harsh but that's the way to deal with it.

Yea it is... Does anyone have an idea of what the starting problem may be? It usually starts fine but at times it will turn over for a good 10 seconds before actually starting, it was (apparently) recently serviced so I guess the plugs should be okay

Ok so if you have the yellow section for your old car you should have known at that point he was a trader, either you send that off and it goes into the trade or you go online and transfer the old car into his name as a registered keeper.

What engine is in the Seat ?

I always look at ways to exploit the motor trade. I've sold them a right few lemons and enjoy comebacks.

Well he has said something about being on his dads trade insurance but idk, I really wasn't looking for any red flags I just took him at his word and that was that, I guess I won't do that again...

The Seat is a 1.9 TDI, I have read it may be the glowplugs? Is there a way to test them?

Trade insurance doesn't care what the V5 says, unless its being used for private use in which case some stipulate the car needs to be in the directors or business name.

You could easily register the car to him if you have the document reference number to hand, it quick and easy to do online.

With the seat you will need to get diagnostics run on it. The 1.9tdi is pretty bullet proof, glow plugs would normally be used in colder conditions, it could be either battery, starter motor, fuel pump etc. You could just turn the key to ignition on a couple of times and see if it starts.

won't be glow plugs, check voltage off battery and if alternator is working correctly first. you really need vagcom to check errors else you are shooting in the dark.

Can I just get the leads and run the diagnostics myself? Or is there expensive software I need?

It's quite simple, something like this for a fiver

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/182538965408?chn=ps...

You can also download VCDS from ROSSTECH, the free version ought to provide enough diagnostics/reset ability.
