Capacity wise it'll fit into both of those but I suspect it won't be competitive in A2 as it probably allows much more in the way of modifications?Class S1-Standard Road-Going Series Production Cars up to 2000cc

Well after a good hint through autotrader, eBay and local sales. A few test drives, a few people who were bending the truth a little in adverts we have come across a clean 2005 Fiesta st that will be having a proper look at tomorrow. Looks good from the outside so fingers crossed we will like the drive.
Thanks for the input all, just to update you all weather you want it or not
We went to have a look at the fiesta and liked it but didn't commit to it. Had a look around at what else we could see, went back to the fiesta, had another test drive and ended up putting a deposit down with the condition of a new MoT and service.
It flew through the MoT with no advisories so that was all good and here it is.
91,000 miles give or take, 12 months Mot, service history, new clutch around 10,000 miles ago and an engine rebuild at roughly the same time (receipt to show all the works done.

Just to keep things up-to-date, if anyone is interested. My dad and I did out first 'race' yesterday. It was an auto solo put on by the Bristol Motor club.
It was a really good day and we both really enjoyed it. Not sure on the results yet, all I know is I beat my dad!
Definitely going to try hill climbs and sprint racing next, just need to get the race suit.

Something lightweight and non turbo would be good. A Metro GTi is unfashionable, but might work well.
I was thinking of something similarly crap but brilliant... an old 205 or one of the unpopular Saxo models... cheap, small, lightweight, will sneak into the 1400cc or less class or wherever the other newbies are playing. On the other hand, Metros with the K series conversion are hysterical...

Great pics and good to see you following it through, you picked a good set of disciplines to get into, open track or with others on track makes licenses and what-not a bit more expensive. Need to get on the readers cars section with regular updates of you and your dad's adventures. Look forward to seeing more mate. It was a really good day and we both really enjoyed it.
