Thanks, we have found a Clio 182 to go and see this weekend. Reasonably local also. So win win if you ask me biggrin
Two litres? Have you checked the regs yet?

We have 2 reasonably close to us. One is Gurston down near Salisbury and the other is Widcombe Park.

Gurston will be good. lots of racing for pretty much every category there is.

Capacity wise it'll fit into both of those but I suspect it won't be competitive in A2 as it probably allows much more in the way of modifications?

This could be true, we have to start somewhere and what's better than working the way up from the bottom though! biggrin

Well after a good hint through autotrader, eBay and local sales. A few test drives, a few people who were bending the truth a little in adverts we have come across a clean 2005 Fiesta st that will be having a proper look at tomorrow. Looks good from the outside so fingers crossed we will like the drive.

Thanks for the input all, just to update you all weather you want it or not biggrin

We went to have a look at the fiesta and liked it but didn't commit to it. Had a look around at what else we could see, went back to the fiesta, had another test drive and ended up putting a deposit down with the condition of a new MoT and service.

It flew through the MoT with no advisories so that was all good and here it is.

91,000 miles give or take, 12 months Mot, service history, new clutch around 10,000 miles ago and an engine rebuild at roughly the same time (receipt to show all the works done.

Just to keep things up-to-date, if anyone is interested. My dad and I did out first 'race' yesterday. It was an auto solo put on by the Bristol Motor club.

It was a really good day and we both really enjoyed it. Not sure on the results yet, all I know is I beat my dad!

Definitely going to try hill climbs and sprint racing next, just need to get the race suit.

Something lightweight and non turbo would be good. A Metro GTi is unfashionable, but might work well.
I was thinking of something similarly crap but brilliant... an old 205 or one of the unpopular Saxo models... cheap, small, lightweight, will sneak into the 1400cc or less class or wherever the other newbies are playing.
Metros and 205’s etc are subject to the ‘car I wanted when I was 17’ tax - in other words you can get a much quicker more modern hot hatch for less cash. You wouldn’t get a decent metro for less than 4K (happy to be proved wrong though) or a 205 for less than 5k. I’d definitely go Clio based on the op’s criteria, although op definitely needs to be sure the timing belt has been done (about 500 at a specialist, 1200 at a Renault dealer!)

On the other hand, Metros with the K series conversion are hysterical...

Great pics and good to see you following it through, you picked a good set of disciplines to get into, open track or with others on track makes licenses and what-not a bit more expensive. Need to get on the readers cars section with regular updates of you and your dad's adventures. Look forward to seeing more mate.
