Pre-purchase inspection?

Hi All,

I have been looking at buying a new car for the first time.I have concidered purchasing RAC Inspection to do there points check but looking at those prices I think it would just be better to send it in for a new service check,Where I would get oil change,oil ,fuel and air filter change included. The only thing that I can see that i would not be able to do is the diagnostic check

As I mentioned above a while ago, I'd personally just get a good independent garage to give it a good look over.

It's what I'd do again if I was looking at a used car that had potential for nasty surprises.
