So she hasn't driven a Mini ?

I assume colour and shape comes first then how it drives comes second .... good luck, you need it.

She liked how it looked from the outside and didn't like the dash or how it drove.

I feel your pain normally I just get the OH a car but the last couple of years she's decided to take an interest which has made it very painful but on the upside she ended up picking a Alpina D3 (after picking a Macan Diesel S which she hated) so it wasn't all bad.

How's your head OP beer

Try & find a T5 C30 near you or just find one with the R deign kit on.

40 mile (each way) trip to see an 09 TT cab on very low mileage. MOTs stack up for the low mileage and it’s got nice coloured heated leather
Get there and it looks a lot more used than the mileage would suggest. Leather on the steering wheel looks uneven, like it’s been retrimmed, seats and centre console scratched.
(And I missed the fact it was dark blue and not black)readitpaperbag

We had a cooper S, it did go well but the engine was fragile, the valves clog up where they recycle the emissions. They need quite a bit of work every couple of years. In the states BMW have been brought to task, it is a known issue. We went down the Golf Gti route and never looked back. Very quick, comfortable, can seat 4 adults and do not loose money like a mini.

N18 engine is much better, but you will find VWs suffer big time on coking up too.

Update 2 : Having driven the Mini, TT, Golf, and an S3, it's looking like it's going to be a Golf Gti.
After trying a few mk5s, we have also looked at a mk6 and have had to up the budget, as in her opinion, it's a nicer place to be and from thinking she'd keep it for a couple of years and see where we are then, she's thinking that the MK6 will keep her going for 4 or 5 years.
So I'm left waiting for her to make her mind up on the one we've seen, which probably means another couple of weeks of procrastination involving several days of comments like
"What about this one. No hang on it's not got leather"
"What about this one. No, it's done too many miles"
"What about - oh hang on it's in Inverness/Tenby/Newquay/Timbuktu."
etc etc. A serious contender for the "why do women faff about so much" thread.
It's just not necessaryu. When choosing my last car I simply researched the market for two years and simply ordered it.hehe

There were issues with some 2.0T VAG engines and timing chains/oil consumption on the MK6.

It maybe worth reading up on these and the cost of rectification.

Someone whispered Scirocco. I have already dodged that bullet.
She sat in one at a dealers where we were looking at the Golf and preferred the higher roofline of the Golf.
I have also pointed out that the dog crate we have would have to be disassembled and reassembled to get it in the back of a three door.

This dog crate would fold up with two poles removed, but to her it is like completing a Rubiks cube with 169 squares on each side blindfold and underwater with boxing gloves on.

Luckily I got this to sink in before the suggested trip to South Wales from the East Midlands was actually made.
woohoo

Finally, despite the scirocco incident- you swines biggrin - and staring to browse Caymans on ebay last night - swiftly discounted by asking where she would put 400 Litres of Bark Chips - we're over the line and the trigger/bullet/kumquat has been pulled/bitten/fisted.

Deposit down on the 5dr red Mk6 Golf GTI we saw at the weekend.
All boxes ticked on the wish list except black ( sorry Carparkno1, but rest assured any blue was a definite no) and a sunroof, but after seeing the roof she wasn't that fussed, and liked the red as it stands out in a good way, much like her.

FSH
Heated Leather
DSG
Built in nav to shout at and punch when she knows better than it does, despite having the geo-awareness of a washing up bowl.

First jobs will be to check the camchain tensioner has been upgraded, replace if necessary, and to keep an eye on the oil.
It may need disks and pads which were an advisory on the last MOT 6 months ago
Fingers crossed they might have been done - I know - I should have checked
The garage offered to do them for £100 on top of the selling price, fitted.
I was a bit sceptical of the quality that that kind of offer might have got me , so asked for another ton off to buy some decent ones and save them the hassle, hoping that if they were offering to do it for £100 that they'd checked and it had in fact already been done before they got it.

They agreed, so we're off to pick it up in the morning!

Thanks for all the advice which was ( not entirely unexpectedly) completely ignored by the OH, I think she liked the grown up-ness of the golf and she has just told me that she always wanted a golf ever since
