True, I just cant see past the likely scenario that my hypothetical 6-7 year old 30-40k mile car worth 10k wont likely have any issues or that the tech will be lagging significantly. Agree that it comes down to personal preference, I guess I value 10k of residual value more than having the same but newer car on the drive. Putting 10k down would also (I assume) get me into something a level up every 6 years, say XC90 vs V90.
You're not comparing like for like though, if you lease every couple of years you get a brand new car every 2 years, that will obviously cost.

It just sounds like leasing isn't for you as you prefer to 'own' your cars, everyones different, new cars cost and sometimes leasing is the least expensive way of running a new car.

Granted its diesel but as its euro6 I have no long term worries there, it will also get a long run every so often.
Euro 6 diesels are ferociously complicated. You might be lucky, but it could be a complete nightmare. And taking them for a long run is probably pointless - most don't passive regen anymore.

If your wife's 3-4K is mainly shopping trips then your biggest problem with a lease car would be swallowing the end of lease charge for dings and dents.

My concern with leasing is that once you're into it, the change point is out of your control. You talk about 3 x 2 yr leases vs owing for 6 yrs, but once into the first lease you've no idea what the subsequent leases are going to cost and you can't hang around waiting for something to pop up.

The subsequent leases will cost whatever you want them to cost - you just have to relinquish some control over the car you want.

I'm a bit snobby and like either a premium badge or the top spec trim on a model from a 'mid-range' marque, but would let a deal sway me if it was good enough.

However we're onto our 4th lease car (with overlapping renewal dates) and I don't feel like we've ever had to compromise on 'quality' of cars. We've had a 1 series M Sport, A4 Avant Sport, Pug 5008 SUV GT Line and now V90 R Design and never paid more than £200/month with a maximum of 9 upfront.

I love cars (although I don't really know how they work) and used to change every 2 years anyway so leasing beats all but the cheapest of used cars for me. If you like to run a year-old used car for 5/6 years then it's probably not for you.

Hi, are the V90 MY18 still floating around?, awaiting some figures from my local dealer in Surrey, they were quite keen on pushing me towards a PCP with 3 yrs free servicing.

There are some V90s left but not many, I’ve quoted some figures that I had sent to me a few pages back.

The Tiguan is cheap at the moment. 4x4 dsg 1.4 is around 280 on a 1 plus 23.

Just a wee update on my Audi A5 Sportback order (I complained some pages ago about production delays)

I ordered back in December, wanting late June delivery. The broker then told me I'd be looking at July production, so delivery in August... I kicked up a bit of a fuss, and lo and behold the car left quality control this morning and is on its way to the docks. This is a two litre petrol S-line car with the tech pack if that's of any use. Not sure how long it'll take now to arrive at Leeds Audi, but I'd think under 4 weeks, so late June looks to be on afterall, so there is some hope if you are facing delays with an Audi.

Further follow-up. My Arona has finally arrived! 1.0 DSG, SE Tech. Delivery guy said it's only the fourth they've delivered out, so I guess this is the start of them getting onto the road

Marshall’s do have some very highly kitted out D4’s but expect to pay around 400 a month with 2k down, 20”s, top end sound winter and xenium packs etc , all the standard kit MY18 cars are gone, unless someone cancels.

Speak to the business sales manager here @ Marshall’s Volvo 01707 862753 , he can pull in any vehicle from Volvo Uk if you’re happy with the numbers.

correct. just at 3% its virtually for nothing at the moment. I think I have derailed the deal thread for enough now, I don't think its for me!
To add to the benefits of leasing another angle is that you can really enjoy a lease car. If I bought a golf R GTi S3 cooper s cupra 300 etc etc. for close to 30k then I'd be a little tense about driving it like it's meant to be driven.

When I lease I can really give it the beans and enjoy it from day 1. I realised this when I beat the crap out of my wife's mini on a trip to Devon the other weekend.

The fastest car in the world is indeed a lease car (but I'm not driving lit like an idiot to be clear).

Another benefit is that your transport needs may change every couple of years, kids growing up, retirement etc) and buying new and taking a depreciation hit is a lot more expensive.

Plus plus also also leasing new cars is a LOT cheaper than buying on PCP in many cases. Put the lease payments into a manufacturer's online finance calculator and to get similar monthlies may take thousands in deposit.

No no. The fastest car is always a hire car! Same thing though. smile
I must admit the v90 I'm getting will be my first lease and my mind set is changing. Where as in my previous car it was treated to ceramic coating, never taken to a £5 swirl mark special hand car wash, fully run in, never thrashed when cold etc I think I will be a lot more relaxed now. Yes I'll still park as far away from the morons in car parks as possible and so on but it will be liberating having a white goods mentality!

Yes liberating is a great way to describe it. Just enjoy it then give it back and get something else. The thought of having to choose another car in 2 years time is a petrol heads dream isn't it?

But... I would never buy an ex lease or company car ever!

just because the car isn't yours doesn't mean you should just treat it like a hire car... you've still got to live with it for 2 years. Any damage is chargeable at the end. I still had mine properly valeted, maybe just less often than with a car i've owned outright.

I don't. I treat it like I have to give it back in two years. I enjoy it and drive fast when it is safe and if I'm honest I took the Alltrack to a car wash three times in 24 months.

It has warranty for clonks and rattles and even if it does I don't worry. It's the worry when you have your own car, that anxiety of what the next repair might be. It's too much.

You need to run an 8y old RR Sport with a known leaky suspension to max out that feeling smile

The leased BMW which replaced it with its factory warranty is snores-ville by comparison.
