Expensive on one hand, but a pretty good deal on the other hand. Bit of an iconic car in my view, a one of a kind type of car - even though its not exactly one of a kind....but you know what I mean!
I posted it and even I didn't realise they were that expensive 63 grand!

Could be tempting given that Diesel prices have shot up 5-10% in the last month... Meanwhile I now get my leccy for about 9p a kWh and it's 100% green

And a Q7 or GLE or something won't do 0-60 in under 5 and handle no abysmally.

Hi all

Sorry if this has been asked before.
My super cheap Skoda Yeti is going back in a few months and I am looking to make the most of the very low monthly installments (£71.99) keeping it for an extra 3 months through the VWFS informal extension.
What I am struggling with is the insurance bit. I looked around and getting insurance for just 3 months seems to be quite expensive compared to a full 12 months, which suddenly makes the extension less appealing. Just wondering if anyone has done this before and knows of a competitive provider of short term car insurance policies?

Thanks so much
Why not just insure it for 12 months, opt to pay monthly then cancel when you no longer need it, or transfer it to your next car if you are getting one?
Cool I wasn't aware you could cancel the policy at any point if paying monthly. Will definitely look into it. Thanks very much!

Wait - check the cancellation policies before doing this - especially fees for cancelling in first 12 months - it may be cheaper to renew the existing insurance and the cancel after 3 months?

Pay monthly will cost you more!!

They add interest onto the premium, so usually ends up about 10-20% more over the full term.

Paying monthly is only the method of payment. How much the pro-rata premium costs and how much the admin fee / cancellation costs will be identical to whether you pay up front or monthly.

Best way is to get the best 2-3 cheapest quotes
for your current car, then compare cancellation costs or amendments to the policy. There are a few with free online admin amendments, and there are a lot of brokers who charge £25-£100 so check before you buy smile

Generally, I have been able to swap from one car to another with zero or little admin costs and less then £50 premium to get the new one covered.

This year I went from Passat Alltrack to Jaguar XF 3 months into policy and it cost an extra £32 all in.

Good luck

Hi guys, noob here with a noob question... so be gentle!

I'm losing my company car at end of the year so need to source my own vehicle which I haven't done for many years.

What's considered a decent PCH deal?
I've heard 25% mentioned in this thread - I presume that's the total PCH cost (upfront + monthlys) vs the list price?
But what mileage does that assume? I'm likely to be looking for a 15k mile contract, most of the default quotes seems to be 8k or 10k.

Thank in advance.

Hello, I am trying to find a way to track gas prices ... and with local details, like London versus Shropshire as an example. Any hint ?

Anyone good out there for Jag XE/F?

Was looking 3 years if they want me to put 3 grand down which most still came out around 350/p

Looked ex showroom or used models and some were 400+ Is there a good site for nearly new?

Another silly question but when I told a mate who's just started to lease that I was put-off by hefty initial payments, and being left with nothing to show for it at the end of the lease, he said he'd just get another car. Do they want another initial payment in that case?

JLR tend to give their best offers on 4year contracts but that's a bad price.

For an XE 2.0 SE --- Select Car leasing will do one for 300 a month with £1100 down or Jaguar Lancaster for £316 with £950 deposit.

Yes in the case of lease after you give it back there is no equity (positive or negative) so you put another £1k or whatever down for the deposit.

However with PCH the overall contract cost is the same whether you put down 3 months in advance or 9

Not sure how the first 12 months are special, considering the insurance contract is only for 12 months. But yes, be *very* aware of what little refund you may get if you cancel, particularly if through a broker.

Here's T's and C's from a well-known and oft-discussed broker.

Our charges
In addition to premiums charged by insurers, we normally make the following charges to cover the administration of your insurances:
  • £25 Making mid term amendments, processing cheques which are returned by our bank as un-cleared, cancelling policies.
  • £35 Arranging collection of bad debts with our debt collection agency. Making changes to your policy (including cancellation or null and voiding) as a direct result of misrepresentation or non-disclosures by you at time of the quote and/or inception of the policy (in addition to any standard administration fees or additional premium charge by the insurance company).
  • Up to £100 For setting up new policies and renewing a policy (non refundable).
  • £15 For arranging an agreed value and sending call recordings.
Note the non-refundable fee for setting up a policy. Say you take out a 12-month policy for £220 pounds and want to change the vehicle after 3 months, here's what can happen: The underwriter they've placed the initial policy with may be very uncompetitive or unwilling to insure your new car, so the policy must be cancelled and a new 12 month one taken out. so from the £220, deduct "up to £100" for the old setup cost, leaving £120. Your 3 months is a quarter of that (£30), so your refund is £90 - less the £25 charge for cancellation, so you may only get back £65...

10k for 2 years is what that's based on

Obviously it depends on the car/spec etc, but generally speaking on 10k miles p/a over 2 years: 20-25% is a decent-ish deal, around 20% is a good deal, 15-18% is the holy grail, sub 15% is an Alltrack.

Currently running a v90 D4 Inscription with Winter pack on 15k miles over 18 months (thats the only term they'd offer at launch. I'm paying £372 (6+17))

Looking for a replacement when this goes back in December, and much though I've enjoyed it, looking to change slightly. Have the following quotes back;

Both are on 15,000 miles / year over 24 months (6+23)

v90 D4 Cross Country Pro - 494/month - 31% of list

Skoda Superb Sportline 280 DSG 4x4 (heated seats, wheel and metallic are extras on this, included in the monthly) - 435/month - 34% of list

Anyone any thoughts on anything left field like the Skoda I've priced above, and anyone heard of any deals on these cars, that I might not have.

Oh - the Volvo price is from Ray Chapman in York, after 2 attempts at getting a price from my local Volvo dealer (who my current car is from) I've given up with them. The Skoda price is from my local dealer.

I've PCP'd before, I've bought outright before and I've used HP.

1 thing I can't get over when looking at lease deals is the initial. How do you guys justify it? Sometimes even on the great deals it's quite high which puts me off. Even on the cheaper stuff it's still a sizeable chunk.

it's just part of the overall cost and that's it really.

some will vary the initial and make the monthly higher; you just look at the total cost over 2 years and if it's a deal then it's a deal.

if you are restricted on cashflow then some will go as low as 1 month down but that may restrict your options on any deals that come up. I usually opt for 6+23 but would happily go higher or lower initial if a deal required it.

That ipace deal looks really good actually.

Bare in mind the PCP deals are not that great because baloon quite low. Seems lease companys have more faith in the product that jaguar finance.

Also, no discounts right now and probably quite low production volumes.

Very tempted.

Handed back my A4 a couple of weeks ago and just had my invoice for the excess mileage. Deal was for 5k p/a when I knew I'd need 8k, but it actually worked out cheaper to take the 5k and pay the excess.

Handed the car back with 15886 miles on the clock and have been invoiced for 5886 miles totalling £424. However, the car was driven to me under the standard 'Free delivery' banner and had 650 miles on the clock when it arrived.

Phoned up Audi Finance to get the invoice changed and been told "That's not our problem - it's for you to sort out with the dealer..."

I know it's pennies in the grand scheme of things, but I'm fcensoredking feeling well stitched up. Reckon the dealer are going to refund me 2 years later?

Free delivery my bòllócks.

Assuming you are meaning 'gas' as in either the American word for Petrol or as being short for LPG...

Could you reasonably double that say for 4 years? Would the long term income for the company allow a better deal or is their appetite more for taking more short term cash by way of 'deposits'?

My S4 has landed at the dealer, and they have confirmed I can take delivery in September on 68 plate, yay!

They confirmed what somebody else on here said that they can register some cars after September. Still no clearer on whether my S4 is WLTP measured but I don’t care as outcome the same.

Roll on September!
