Looking for mine and my dads old Golf GTI reg Y97 EAJ. It's still taxed but not MOTd. I sold it 8 years ago, and hopefully it will still be around in the North East.

Did anyone have any joy with the v888 form?

V888 is an absolute waste of time, they'll give you nothing. It failed it's MOT in August and hasn't been put through another so look around for people breaking them

These threads always make me sad - I could find out where anyone's car is that's still around, but I'm not allowed. I always feel bad!

Sometimes you just get lucky!

It seems the Capri I sold in 1990 was alive and well in the Orkneys some time before 2018. laugh

Why don't you just gloat instead? You know, like reeaallly rub it in their faces to get over feeling bad about not being able to say anything... hehe

Not gloating at all - the amount of cars I've wanted to buy back or find out where they are, if anything it's worse for me!

I’ve just discovered my old TVR Griffith 4.3 BV which I sold in 2009 is now alive and well in America! Wish I could get it back...

I presume you may be in the police, couldn't you just do a vehicle check and say that it was passing and wanted to check it was insured / taxed / mot'd? on the TV they just use a phone to check without even radioing in, surely they don't ask you why for everyone? I thought any vehicle could get checked just for being on the road.

We wont tell anyone honest smile

i got lucky when looking for my now wife's dad's triumph stag, when doing an MOT history check the system showed where the car had been MOT'd and had done 2 miles in a year so was clearly local.

Called the garage who passed my details to the owner and he let us go up and see it.

They appear to have fixed this issue now but might still be visible to anyone with access to do an MOT.

I didn't come across very well, wasn't accusing you of gloating - I can imagine your frustration if it were to go something like this:

idea . evil . type . readit . cop . judge

Haha no worries, reading it back I could have worded it more better wink. Yes very good emoji story, which is pretty accurate. I have to be able to justify every check I do, and just like drink driving, not wearing a seatbelt, or a helmet - the one time you think 'sod it, I'll be ok' is the one time you or the unfortunate you hit is mopped up using a sponge, bucket and ice cream scoop.

Theres one particular car I’d like to find, even though its nothing exciting. When I was growing up my Grandparents owned a Ford C Max (MT58 HCX). I was only around 6 when they got it in 2009 and it is the reason why I love cars as my Grandad used to let me sit on his knee and let me steer the car into his garage. If I was to ever find this car I’d try to keep it forever but I doubt I’ll ever see the C Max again.

When I was the same age as you in 2017 I managed to track down and buy my dads ST170 which I hadn't seen since I was 5 years old in 2005. It was my first car and I still own it now, my advice is to save a search on eBay, Autotrader, Gumtree and on FB Marketplace and check daily. That's how I found mine, I also tracked down and bought the Leon 225 that replaced it which I hadn't seen since 2008 and my old S Class which I sold last year and bought back this year so it is possible to do, especially if you use VehicleSmart to track the MOT. Good luck with it hope you manage to find it, although sometimes they're better left as a memory

I bet you where made up when you found the ST170 and the Leon. I’ve always wanted an ST170 as my current car is a Mk1 Focus Zetec. I always check for the C Max every day hopefully it comes up one day.

I was on holiday when I found it. I messaged the seller and told him why I wanted it and he agreed to hold it for me, I gave him £550 for it which could buy you a decent ST170 at the time. Think I was paying just over £4k on insurance, you'd be spending 3 times that to buy a decent one now and probably around the same to insure it. It went down to £1200 as soon as I turned 18 and now I'm 20 I pay around £400 to insure it. The Focus was in good shape and it's now stored over winter, the Leon was a dog when I found it. An ST170 as a 2nd car would be a good buy if you found one with the clutch/fly and cambelt done. There's nothing like searching for an old car and actually finding it, I still remember how excited I was walking into that lockup and seeing it there.

I bet you couldn’t wait to get home once you found it. I’m paying around £1300 to insure my 1.6 Zetec which I think is really good considering I only passed a month ago. I doubt I’ll ever part with my Focus as my other Grandad bought it new then my Dad had it for a few years and now I’ve got it and I love it. I’d love to someday have an ST170 especially in Imperial Blue or Capri Blue.

Hi Guys,
I'm looking to find my old Vauxhall Signum. The reg. is HN54UAU. The car is black with irmscher body kit all round including back boxes. The z32se engine was painted in red. I sold it in 2015 on standard sri alloys to the new owner. The buyer signed paperwork as Jamie H****s. Please if you know the person or know anything about the car please let me know. I can give detailed description of the car to prove I was the former owner for many years. Thank you in advance.

I wish I could check the status of my old first Mini but its on a Northern Irish plate and those don't appear to show up on the DVLA MOT and tax checkers.
