Hello guys! My first post! smile

I would just like to ask some people who know about cars because im fairly new to this. This will be my first car purchase!
I am torn between either a VW Polo or Ford Fiesta. I have read around that the VW is slow and you must thrash it to get any speed, but it’s comfortable. Whereas the Fiesta is much more fun to drive and better to control. I

What are your guys opinions?

The two cars specs are:

Ford Fiesta 1.25L (2007)
Previous Owners 2
62,000 Miles
Acceleration (0-62mph) 13.6 seconds
Petrol
Manual

Service History MOT
pass:8
fail: 1 (registration lamp not working)

OR

Volkswagen Polo 1.2L (2008)
Previous Owners 2
42,000 Miles
Acceleration (0-62mph) 16.5 seconds
Petrol
Manual

Service History MOT
pass:3
fail: 3 (exhaust leak, headlamp)
advisory’s: 3

They are both under 2k so within my budget!

Thanks in advance!

As one of your choices is the same as my car ,I will just say that the 1.25 Fiesta MK6.5 isn't quick either.

Assuming your first car is because you are young and recently passed test ,insurance quotes are what you need to look into

for any potential purchase.

We have a polo of that era and I'm thinking of fitting a bilge pump it leaks so much.

Also the injectors self destructed a while back and its on less miles than that (45k km) VAG=turd in my experience.

The fiesta will be the better car. I've had on of each and found the polo to have boat like handling compared to the fiesta.

The engine on the fiesta craves revs and is more spritely than the figures suggest.
The engine on the polo is 3 cylinder and makes a good noise but never felt like it really wanted to be revved, I found myself redlining a lot to make decent progress and it just felt naughty where as the fiesta encouraged it.

The interior was where the polo beat the fiesta, it felt like a little tank inside, chairs where comfy, very few rattles and squeaks. But it felt like the interior would outlast the rest of the car. I had leaks, rear wiper motor broke and it burned oil like petrol. Always needed something at mot time.

Based on my personal experience I'd choose the fiesta all day long but that doesn't mean you won't get a lemon, with so many fiestas out there is be choosing carefully as I imagine some would have been abused big time.

I’m 19 and passed my test 2 1/2 years ago. First car was a 2006 Polo 1.2. It was a hoot to drive, revved freely to 6k and wasn’t too slow at all. What most people don’t realise is that the 9n3 1.2 polo came in a 55hp form as well as a 64hp. The 55 is a 6v and the 64 is a 12v. Make sure the one you are looking at is a 64, I think the 0-60 on mine was around 14.5 seconds?

Loved it so much I upgraded to another Polo, this time a 2011 1.6TDI. The 1.2 felt faster than the 1.6TDI around town! Its just overtaking that the 1.2 failed on.

I vote Polo!

Fiesta every time, cheaper to fix, the polo isn’t all that reliable and not as fun to drive
