It’s a good question re track, I don’t know. Let’s say I would want to and I miss doing car specific stuff like I used to when I owned a Lotus, which is a lot the appeal of that brand.

Usage of the car will be only on weekends (I have a car for kids - Cayenne, and a car for stations - the mighty V50) and only for fun. So summer hoons (four or five a year), trips to wales for climbing and driving (may twice a year) and god willing some track time. Now that my kids (aged 18 months and 6) are getting older track time may be possible

MC Stradale - that and the Aston DB9 GT where what I wanted instead of the R8, but I couldn’t get on with either of them. It was a terrible feeling, recalling wanting to love something, but it just not being right. The MC Stradale I felt was an awesome concept but it didn’t work. Making a track car out of a fantastic GT, it is still big, heavy, etc. Maybe if the gearbox was slightly better it would work, I am not sure. Aston was the same, an amazing GT, but didn’t feel that chuckable if that makes sense

Ferrari 458. Amazing car, great value for money at the moment and just around your budget.

Personally I would look at two cars. Sagaris or Tuscan for the thrill and a V8V's.

Realistically you have 991.1 GT3 or 458.

They are both truly excellent car. Former is probably a little better built and usable (and has a 10year engine warranty) the latter more of an event.

Ferrari much faster though in real world with proper torque. And much more playful chassis. Much more expensive to track. Gt3 with steels you can track no problem. It’s made for that.

Will the 458 ruin me? Porsche and audi maintenance and warranty schedules, repairs are ok as well unless you run up big man hours.

You should go and drive a Mac and see what you think.

Having been through the same thought process about a year ago I am of the view that they are more engaging than a 4x8/Gallardo, have less of the Dubai image but still has a genuine supercar aura and drives like an Elise with 5x the power. I’m on my second one now having progressed from 540c to 570 Spider and a 720S will no doubt be next.

The only other car that came close In terms of being as an exhilarating a drive was the GT3.

All personal preference though I grant you.

570 spider looks amazing, out of bracket though, potentially I could get a 570s. I love the idea of an Elise with 5x the power.

Are consumables stupidly expensive? If I had to track one 4 times a year, is that 15k worth of breaks and tyres?

Brakes being ceramic are not cheap

I am in the process of changing the oem pads for Pagid Endless which will provide a bit more fell and also last longer whilst preserving disc life.

Tyres ? I think it spends to an extent on driving style plus of course who long your track time is and how punishing it is on tyres. They are no more or less expensive than any other car of this performance.
