My brilliantly reliable Ford fiesta may not tackle the journey up into the high roads of bonnie Scotland.....am considering a journey there with 3 kids and a grumpy grandpa. Will take my camera, a torch, map, medical stuff, smartfone, ....is there a perfect car i could buy /part exchange.? Dont really want a heavy 4x4 unless vital ??

Nissan Note, Peugeot 208, Volkswagen Polo will be the best alternatives to Ford Fiesta.

Pssst, you do know that the invention of Tarmac does reach the area known as Scotland?

It even got as far as John O'Groats you will be suprised to hear.

If your car is reliable in England, I cant imagine anything North of the border will change that. Spend the money on a good service, ensure that brakes and tyres are up to standard and enjoy.

What do you think will be different when you cross the border? I live in the north of Scotland and I've never had a 4x4 and never needed one..

Are you really going to change your car for one trip? If the Fiesta is serving you well & you want a bigger car for the trip up North why not just hire one.

just back from Scotland for the long weekend and the road up north are brilliant and your Ford is more than capable of tackling it smile

Does not make sense to change cars for a single trip!,btw haven't you done a long road trip before?
