Its 14 years old, i would say the mileage is low. What kind of items are you going to carry ? I would say for an estate its small, you would be better off with the Octavia. However the 1.9tdi is a strong old engine, any VW diesel after the 1.9tdi is unreliable

Why are you looking to buy a 14 year old car from a trader? Why not simply cut out the trader and pay £500
