Is this going to be the longest running car buying thread where someone hasn't actually bought a car?
Why not?

Hmmm, in your back and forth with coldel where you kept saying the same thing?

What did you think of the car when you drove it?
I like it. Didn't find it slow or too heavy on bends. Cargo space definitely didn't bother me. I drove a 2004 though and I want to buy a HR. But they are harder to find.

Being in Germany I have driven my share of BMWs, Audis and Mercedes and none of them is as fun or have the same sense of occasion. Maybe the R8, AMG GT etc. Never driven those. But among the accessible models they all pale in comparison. Maybe it's because they are so common here and any school boy has them. While the 350Z is as rare as very expensive cars. I actually see R8s quite regularly. Still haven't seen a 350Z on the street since I started looking at them.

Can we close this thread yet?

11 page summary is:

"Testy, demanding German wants members to suggest cars so he can tell them they are not a 350Z"

To me that brace looks like an after thought. Surely a well designed car wouldnt need a huge thing like that in the boot.

But surely if it had been well designed in the first place it wouldnt be required.

To me it looks like they designed the car and realised it wasnt very rigid, so they added a brace. Im not saying that is what happened, but it does look like an after thought to me.
DoubleD said:
Thats a nice story, but why would you design something like that just so you can stick a badge on it? Why would you make a car less practical than it needs to be? I know a coupe isnt about practicality, but a manufacturer wouldnt miss out on potential sales just so they can have a badge in the boot. To me it really does look like an afterthought and more like they realised that the car needed more bracing late in development.
You basically kept saying the same thing over and over. Even though it's clear you don't know the reason. Even though Coldel told you he has seen the brace without the plastic cover and they could have made it smaller while still doing the same job. So you basically kept arguing with somebody who has had the car, has a more in depth knowledge of the car's history and has a better knowledge of the brace itself and hands on experience with it. It would have sufficed to say once, if it is just your opinion and if you can clearly see he has more experience and knowledge of the car. But you kept insisting and then said you weren't insisting. wink

And I have the impression you are irritated with the thread and keep trying to find ways to stir the pot. So why not just, leave it?

So, since 350Zs are thin on the ground around here and HRs are basically a hen with teeth, I'm test driving other cars, waiting to maybe be impressed, while I find a 350Z. Who knows, maybe some car will change my mind.

So I drove a GT86 Friday. Totally understand the complains about it now. I always thought it looked pretty boring. Prefer the BRZ actually. But the driving is also a total non event. At least compared to the 350Z.

Next I have a Hyundai Genesis test drive lined up. Not expecting much. But we will see.

Will keep the thread up dated as I get on with the car search.

Nah. It's too funny seeing people who could just as easy skip posting, taking time to post useless comments. wink

So I drove a Genesis Coupe.

Why is it so not fun? I remember having more fun in a Micra, all things considered.

I hate the gearbox even more than I hate the Z4 steering.

I know it's a V6 but I have heard minivans which sound nicer.

And what was that about the 350Z feeling heavy? This feels heavier! Maybe becauseit's less fun.

Overall I was surprised considering the looks and that it is supposed to be sporty. If I had to choose one of the 2 I would go for the GT86, even though I didn't like that either. There is just something off with the Genesis and is not only that it lacks any character whatsoever. I don't know.

I thought about a 350Z, but they really are lardy!

I test drove a GT86 twice (1st one auto, 2nd one manual) but they really do seem gutless until you rev the t*ts off them.

So I bought a BMW Z4 Coupe. laugh
