Any opinions?

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2...

Are these likely to be money pits?
If I'm likely to be getting £1000 bills at some point, I'll leave well alone!

Cheers

Have you test drove any of the cars suggested so far?

You ain't half undecided aren't you laugh

Two ways you can look at that one. It's a lot of car for the money. On the flip-side, compared to a 'lesser' badge, it's an old car for the money.

The one niggle for me is the short MOT. If I owned that car I'd put a new MOT on it to sell it, for the sake of £40. If you were considering an offer I'd maybe use that as a bargaining chip, he gets one done. If he is not happy to do it, then why not?

That said, it's only ever failed 2 MOT's

Yes a Mazda 6 2.5 sport. But was a bit overpriced and needed 4 tyres and a couple of other bits doing. Would've taken well over budget & seller wouldn't budge on price at all.
Was a nice car though.
And a Mondeo 2.0 ecoboost. But the service history was sketchy to say the least, so passed on it. Again was a nice car though.

Haha, yep undecided, but not really having the time to commit to car hunting due to work & family commitments isn't helping.

Thanks for your advice

So do you have more of a shortlist now?

Kind of!

Not even considering diesels with DPF's.

Mondeo would be ideal, but not many petrols about, especially local.

Then Mazda 6, Accord, Avensis (again hard to find good spec & mileage)

Still open to anything else that looks good though! For example the E280 I linked to. But I do worry about not being able to afford repair costs on these.

The 280's don't really go wrong but of course it'll be a little more expensive if you have to replace wear & tear components then yes it'll be a bit more expensive but not massively so,

And the petrols look pretty thirsty!

The newer shape ones are the better car, but those ones are extremely wafty and comfy. Motorised sofa would be a great description.

Yep. But I see your point, petrol ones of the new shape are a bit thin on the ground.

Wild card time. Ignore the badge, they're great cars.

I very nearly bought one a couple of weeks ago!

Ready to get the train up to Leeds, then the seller went all wierd on me, after being brilliant before, said he needed the car for his father in law which was bks so not sure what the deal was there.

I agree they look good, badge doesn't bother me, but I did see a fair few issues with timing chains slipping

Wouldn't have put me off going to see it I don't think

It's worth remembering though that every model will have its foibles. Google any model followed by 'known issues' and there shall be something. BMW with their swirl flap issues, Ford with rusty door bottoms, Vauxhalls catching fire etc.....

Thanks,

Yes true, and its far more likely people complain/post problems online than post how happy they are.

For me it's just a case of minimising the risks ie. I'd prefer a rusty door that I can see and fix, than an engine that just blows up one day out of the blue

Is an extended warranty an option, if you're nervy of bills?

I guess it's always an option, but I've pretty much only read bad things about them & how they wriggle out of paying.

Think I do too much googling & worrying!
