I always call mine the "clowns shoe" It was a car designed by engineers first in their own time, and it took many attempts before it was approved by the BMW board.
Eventually, they caved in under some strict provisos, such as limited quantities and using as many parts as possible from the Z3 roadster.
That's why from the front up to the doors it is identical to the roadster variant.
When the Z3M arrived on UK shores, dealers hated them - they were difficult to sell. From what I recall they were priced close to the E46 M3 which was much more practical, which made trying to sell a Z3M all the more difficult.
The looks may divide opinions, but compared to modern day BMW it has a lot more style.

Thanks for the replies.
To be clear i'm a car enthusiast, not in it to make money, all i want is a car i can enjoy on weekends over the next few years without losing tons of money on it depreciating.
Interesting about the 996, a friends engine failed last week and he's looking at a £10-£12k bill, they do look great tho.
I've been looking at 8 series sports for a while, i had heard they wer't that great as drivers cars though, they do look a little heavy. That said i have the same engine in my E39 540 and it's a great engine.
E46 M3's are just too common for me still. A good friend has one and it's a great car but just 'not for me'.
Like the idea of the 2002 tii, need to look more closely at whats available, in a similar vein, £25k gets you into a decent Alfa Junior from the 60's or 70's and they look beautiful...

DeLorean. Because who wouldn't want one! Either UK based or spend some of the cash on a break to the US finding one to ship home.
I guess it depends what you're intending to do with this car.
My father in law sold his for £35k. It was kitted out in all the movie bumf. He would use it for weddings etc. Nice money earnerI guess it depends what you're intending to do with this car.

Classic car market is in reverse gear on almost everything, however most sellers are still priced up at yesterdays money, meaning if you buy now you are likely to see a dip initially. I would wait six months and have another look then.
Oh yes. In so many ways following the spec ululates it’s created a ravish ponzu scheme. When you see what we’re poor cars when new and still poor now being flogged for crazy money just because it’s old and when you talk to someone they are really flogging you must get in you cannot lose etc.
When I hear cannot lose..... that’s time to get out if still in or if you want to get in then your buying a car as you want that car so enjoy driving it first and foremost - appreciation is a nice problem to have but that is all

Perhaps, but the real beauty of the Z3M Coupe lies in its lore.

Lovely cars, and shooting up in value too! It was a car designed by engineers first in their own time, and it took many attempts before it was approved by the BMW board.

Z4M Coupes seem to be doing pretty well too - and to my mind they look much better!

I do love a 944 S2 (Turbo S though trumps it IMHO)
