So, a new DMF, Clutch and Release Bearing later, we're back in action! :drive: It's only taken a month and many, many pounds cry
Too much, or still good value for money overall ?
Not as good a value as I would have liked. But still average market price, maybe slightly lower than average, but with a spanking new DMF and Clutch to boot.

I paid £800 for the car and £700 (£450 parts, £250 labour) so I'm £1500 in. More than I would have gone and bought one for, unless it had recently had a new DMF and clutch. But those ones were closer to the £2k - £2.5k mark.

This was always going to be a "keeper" but I think I've got a very decent car for the money, that should last me a good few years! thumbup

£700 doesn't seem too bad for the work you've had done.

Good read that and fair play to you for the effort you have put in!

I have done several long distance trips over the years, the 4 main ones that spring to mind are (I am based in Ipswich)

1. Flew to Glasgow with a friend to buy an Astra VXR, was a well worth trip as the car was better than described. Although in the time we took off from Stansted to the time it took to fly to Glasgow they had around four inches of snow. Making for a very interesting drive home!

2. Same friend that came to Glasgow. Drove us to Brighton after work one night with the intention of buying a BMW 330D. Got there after a near 3 hour drive. Car was a total dog and nothing like as described. Was told it had brand new rear tyres (they were near enough bald), Was told it was full service history (previous owner still had it all due to VAT reasons apparently, I smelt a rat). No receipt or evidence for a clutch change that was advertised. At that point we proceeded to head home, only for the seller to accuse us of wasting his time and we were probably only another few minutes from having a street brawl with the guy but I encouraged us to leave.

3. Same friend again + 1 drove me to Leeds to view a Nissan 350z. Described as immaculate with full history blah blah blah. Another massive disappointment! There wasn't a panel on the car without either a dent or scratch. Service history was terrible. Belts in the engine bay practically disintegrating as the engine was turning over. Walked away from that one as well!

4. I went solo (sort of) on this one. My parents who aren't very good with cars, were away near Southampton on holiday for the week. There was a very tidy looking Fiesta ST not far from them. I spoke with the owner, all sounded very good. Asked my folks to go take a look. They said it looked very tidy, so I booked a one way train ticket for the next day to go and do the deal. The guy picked me up from the local station and let me drive it back. Drove very well and the paintwork was absolutely immaculate! However half way through a cup of tea and looking through the service history it became pretty evident there pretty much wasn't any. It was a 7 year old car with 2 service stamps and receipts. With the first service having not been done until 24k miles/3 years. Well over double the service interval. Ended up having to walk away from that one and paying another single fair to get back home! Train tickets cost me £150 in total when a return was £85!

How do you get a 60% discount code from GSF? CP4L do good discounts from time to time but I've never seen anything anywhere near 60%!
