Only 5'9" and 6'3" but rear facing car seats take up a hella lot of room...
Thanks for all replies so far, will have a look at the Superb and S-max. Anyone have a Kia Sportage, or know how roomy the rear is?
Yes they take up a lot of room but I'm 5'-10" and I fitted a rearward facing seat behind me in a V70 and Mondeo back in the day. Thanks for all replies so far, will have a look at the Superb and S-max. Anyone have a Kia Sportage, or know how roomy the rear is?
So my suggestion would be this :-)

Nice looking thing, would that be any bigger than the OPs 5 series inside? If you had it a few years back then it may be that rear facing seats have recently got a lot bigger now you can get group 1 rear facing ones (good until 6 years old). We had no issues with the group 0 in any of our cars, but upgraded both to group 1 rear facing and had to move the front seats forward to fit them in. Not sure we'd fit either of them into our Fabia.
OP - isn't Sportage the small version of the Sorrento, would expect it to be about golf sized inside.

Ive got a ford Torneo Grand Connect for my family:
The first time I sat in it I felt like an utter midget, the headroom is unreal- my mate who is 7ft tall (actually 7ft) says its the most height friendly car he has been in
Its got sliding doors, so child seats are a breeze (2 x rear facing) , as on a ferry the other day and without them I couldn't of got the kids out the car!
I used to have to spend ages folding up the buggy and carefully putting shopping in the boot in my old car, in this I whack the buggy in fully put up and enough room for a monthly shop . I bought a double mattress from Ikea the other day and could fit it in the car along with 6 of us!!
Its got double the boot size of a Volvo xc70 I used to use and makes an Eclass estate feel crampt
On the downside, it looks st, kind of like something a poor mans pope would own, it also looks like a van, which doesn't bother me, but some people are snobs
Its also slow, but handles well for the size
Its also very cheaply put together, although been reliable
Next time im getting a full size transit or a VW transporter as fancy more space for bikes!!
I was tempted by an smax, but Id rather have a tool thats very good, rather than a tool that pretends to be stylish at the expense of practicality.

He said Car.
HTH
But yes it is a van
Id never go back to cars for family use, just too compromised and cramped.
Thing is if you are tall and want rear facing seats you are always going to get similar issues with estates, yes the odd model might give you a few extra inches here and there but the design is the limiting factor

I'm 6'6" and my wife is 6' - to add to that, I'm also a wheelchair user so have to have enough space to pass a wheelchair (with removable rear wheels) over my lap and into the back seat behind the passenger, so I/we need a spacious car.
We've recently come from a '10 plate Volvo XC70 which was marvellous - a huge boot and super comfy, to a new Seat Leon ST. It's a slightly 'budget' choice perhaps, but it has loads of space inside, and neither of us struggle for leg or shoulder room. The estate has a decent size boot with useful under-floor storage.
I'd recommend looking at either of those.

As they've been mentioned twice now. See my previous post with picture of my Elgrand.
I didn't fully appreciate the brief. Although they are cavernous inside the driver's seat is relatively cramped for anyone over about 6'4” ish. It doesn't go back far enough, and the steering wheel doesn't adjust high enough. I'm 6'4" and only just get comfy in it. If it had just 1" more rearward adjustment it's be perfect......But I genuinely love it more than any car I've owned to date. You NEED to get them LPG converted though.
