Sorry if this has been covered before but this is the only car I've ever had on a finance agreement.

I'm doing a voluntary termination on my PCP and have been told by BMW that BCA (British Car Auctions) would be in touch shortly to arrange collection of my vehicle.

My question is, from your experiences how particular is the inspection likely to be and what kind of things are they looking for on a three year old car? More particular the condition of the tyres. Is he/she likely to whip out a measuring guage? Mine are pretty close to the legal limit and I don't really fancy spending £800 on new tyres for a car which I'm returning.

Other than that the car is in very good condition so I don't see them having any other issues.

If they're close to the mark why not get some good used tyres & that way you won't have to worry about any penalties.

I would imagine as long as they are LEGAL and have a few months wear left you will have nothing to worry about.

If they are right on the limit you might have to put your hand in your pocket.

What does the contract say?

I returned my Golf R early last week, BCA came to collect it and checked it thoroughly including measuring every tyre even though it had only done 10,000 miles so if yours are low they will definitely notice.

I'm not really sure what the contract says, I guess I'll have to try and dig it out.

It did have it's first MOT in September, the tester kindly mentioned I might want to change my tyres soon although they weren't low enough for an advisory. Guess I may have to get myself down there and get them double checked before they come for the collection.

BCA collected my Up! With quite uneven tyre wear (on tears) and lowest point on 1.7mm, didn’t even raise it with me. VW never billed me either. Perhaps, they are more strict on performance cars?

If your tyres are still legal I can't see how they can force you to change them, unless it specifies a deeper thread depth for change in your agreement.

There are guidelines that help when VT'ing. I did this fairly recently and found this doc very useful - https://issuu.com/bfwsn67/docs/cars_-_seat_fs_2018...

It does state tyres must meet legal minimum so as long as they do, you shouldn't have an issue.
