I picked up a Singapore car magazine and found it rather hilarious that to buy a Opel Mokka in Singapore costs £74000. What other countries have ridiculous car costs/ tax ? Is Singapore the worst?

Most far eastern countries are similar, Thailand, Malaysia etc. Supercar prices are eye watering.

Where I am in Oz, there is a 33% luxury car tax to protect the local market, which has all but disappeared...

Denmark is pretty dear, I think its 150% sales tax on anything over a mid priced family car. So a well spec'd golf will set you back a few years wages.

And I thought Netherlands prices were bad!
Tax is related to engine size/efficiency/consumption so bigger engine cars are twice the UK price.
Then there's the road tax, my diesel Octavia would be about €2300/year I think. Although road tax on petrols is cheaper than on diesels, while diesel is about 20-25c/litre cheaper, which seems pretty sensible to me; you need to be doing a pretty high mileage for diesel to work out cheaper than petrol

I met a guy at the ring from I think Norway and he said his GT3 ended up costing £350k or something. Madness.

Last week a discussion on here commented on how good the roads were in the Netherlands compared to the UK.

Certainly a lot less potholes. Similarly Norway has high car taxes but good roads with a huge about of bridges and tunnels.

Bermuda's the same - think a Mini costs about $80K there.

Could you imagine the feeling of walking out of a showroom with a Mokka after spending all that money? It’s like paying £30 for a happy meal
