I don't even drive a quick car anymore, got to say I quite enjoy just pootling about in an auto bus.

The DC5 did need to be driven very quickly to excite, I did wonder when it was going to earn me a ticket.

I will say this, for basic arse-out RWD fun the mx was great, had a lot of fun in the wet and snow over the years, and it made me a better driver for having owned it.

I tried one of these years ago, I thought it was an awful car.
its the suspension set up and matching tyres. that is the fag on them but sort that out and its a lot of fun. I miss my one.

A lot of the general public consider these types of cars to be hairdressers cars. Im not saying that they are right or wrong, just thats what lots say. That or homophobic comments.
true.
most of the people shouting at an MX5 owner would probably also shout at an Aston driver too (especially a 'vert. obviously)
Many of the general public have been mouthing off about Prince P today. I'm very glad to not to be one of the crowd sometimes.

I think £500 worth of ford puma is decent value for money .

Good fun on a B road , decent around town and good on fuel .

DD - I wasn't saying you were

I can only say that I haven't encountered it

I was expecting it once as I was topless (me and the car) and a Transit van with 3 s pulled alongside in traffic, but no.

I have also had one tramp on a bike shout abuse but that was because he thought I'd cut him up - the look on his face when I jumped out (a scruffy, 6' builder) showed I wasn't what he was expecting laugh

Have had a MX5, Smart Roadster, MR2 MK3 and a 160bhp MG TF.

The TF is the best value for money and most fun.
The MR2 was the most planted.
The Smart was quirky but compromised.
The MX5 felt very overrated.

All in my opinion of course, but I've noticed MX5 owners do seem to get very territorial when people say they aren't keen on them hehe

I get that it’s a decent steer but it looks like an absolute girls car. The image conscious helmsman would take a more brutish coupe or GT.
Perhaps 'the image conscious helmsman' should buy cars to please himself rather than to try to meet other random people's expectations?
And just send the MR2 to Woodsport to drop a V6 into it for you wink
Would that be the Lexus V6 ?
2,5 or 3.0 ?

funnily enough one of the mags (Car? maybe sm can help?) in the 90s reviewed the Z3M against an MX5.
hardly a normal comparison. MX5 won.
That's definitely surprising - having driven both, I'd be taking the keys to the Z3M biggrin

I love my Mk 3 MX5. More smiles per ££ than any car I've ever owned, cheap to run and insure, corners as if on rails, more than enough power for country roads, what's not to like?

Hi all, great post. Just thought I'd chuck a mk1 TT roadster into the mix. 225s coming in well under £2k these days. I've had a couple and there reliable and 35+ mpg. Ive had 2 mgf's as well, there fun but most unreliable cars I've owned.
