A thread about cheap estates and nobody has mentioned a Volvo V70 yet?

Seems ironic shying away because of reliability yet you may go for a Vauxhall.
Hateful stpiles and for me literally the last car on the list would be a Vauxhall.
Don't go diesel at that mileage.
If you'd read my more recent comments, you'd know I currently stand between an Avensis and Mondeo... already eliminated the Insignia...
Alright arsey.

Quote where you ruled it out and I'll happily bow down.

Subaru reliability doesn't seem as good as the other brands...

Another vote here for the 7th Gen Accord - ran a 2.4 Exec for the last 4 years and it has been excellent.

Some parts can be pricey however - that bronze one looks superb tbh.

Well built and cavernous.
I’ve got one of these, a last of the line 08 2.4 auto stacked full of kit. Had it 5 years, taken it from 47k to 167k with only 10k oil changes, usual discs and pads, tyres etc. Original engine, ‘box and even all original suspension!! Not a damper, drop link or bush changed in my ownership.

One Achilles heal is they eat rear callipers. I’ve done 3 one side and 2 the other. They just keep seizing on, it’s well documented. I’ve tried steel braided lines this time and touch wood all is well.

Mine has taken the punishment of 2 young kids, it’s moved all manor of stuff in it or on it. It’s spent the summer towing 1300kg twice a week for my house build. It’s getting battered around the edges now, lots of bumps and scrapes on the bodywork.

It’s soldiering on admirably but has developed a ticking noise on acceleration that my indie says ‘it’s an old car ignore it’ but feels like impending doom to me, it’s also now got a rough idle when cold. Once the house is finished I’ll get it looked at.

This truly is white goods motoring at its best. I just know it will keep getting me where I need to be and will start first time every time, even given its condition! If/ when it dies I’d be her pushed to do anything other than just get another.

£475 tax a year is a stinger though.

Is the 8th Gen Accord not in budget? I've got one and it's a cracking car. Not many about though.

They seem so rare! When I wrote that monologue about mine and how leggy it’s becoming I went straight to the ads looking for an 8th Gen to see what they cost. Way over the OP’s budget and hardly ANY petrol/ auto/ estate options (my 3 must haves)

In the 2010’s, did Honda just not sell any/ many? I suspect they either sold the diesel variant or CRV’s instead. frown

They sold CR-Vs, which is why the Accord is no more

The pre-2006 have much cheaper road tax, although even that's creeping up. Government be greedy! lol

The ticking noise could be the lifters, they are manually adjustable on the Accord and considered a 'fine tuning'. I did mine myself, takes about an hour and I wrote up a full tutorial with photos, specs etc if you want it. Only thing is you need a special tool because the injectors get in the way ( https://www.cambridgelsat.com/bookstore/10mm-honda... ). Alternatively you can weld a bit of rebar or something at a 45 degree angle onto a deep socket. Worth having a spare rocker cover gasket on the ready in case it tears (only a tenner or something), although mine was ok.
