The most I've ever spent on a car so far is about 40k for a cobra replica. Great car but sold it within 12 months and bought a Westfield and a new kitchen which made both my wife and me happy.

We are now looking at selling our primary residence in Essex and moving to our holiday home permanently which will give me a lump sum to do something with.

The majority will be invested in boring financial stuff but I'm thinking this could be my one and only chance to buy a (for me) stupidly over priced toy.

So if you had 100k what would you buy?
It can be new or old, sporty, classic or prestige, but bear in mind a car that then costs 50k per year to keep running won't work.

In no particular order -
California T
Vanquish
GT3
570S

or spend less and get a Nomad.

Enjoy the hunt!

Cheers,

My choice would be a Corvette Grand Sport GT:

With some change to make it your own.

V12 Vantage S

Or the Track Edition GT-R they're something a bit special.

I think that the issue is that you can build a more rewarding fleet of cars for 100k than you can by selecting only one high value car.

However, if I had to vote I’d say the GT3 would need to be close to the top of the list. That wailing engine, towering performance and chattering feedback combined with all the 911 history, super sharp looks and compelling financials make it such a good package.

I’d also have to put something from Ferrari in there. 355,360,430,550,575 - take your pick. There is something magical about a Ferrari that transcends the sum of its parts. Not the fastest or the best handling but for feel good drama you’ll struggle to beat it especially if you select a manual car...

Sadly, whilst I agree with you, I don't have space for a fleet, were pretty much full with the boring daily, the Westfield and my wife's mx5, only got space to squeeze one more in and that would require juggling.

Guess I should have stuck to my guns when buying the house and got the one I wanted with a triple garage and loads of space

It would help if the OP posted listed the previous cars.

Otherwise I'll suggest a Dodge Viper. biggrin

As JT has mentioned already, a gen 1 991 GT3 at around £100k takes some beating especially as Porsche issues a 10 year warranty on the engines. Retailing at just over list price for even 5 year old 20k miles cars this is clear testament to their ability and nothing really comes close at the money performance and driving involvement wise. Can be used as a daily too and the car is special enough to use as a weekend toy as well.

Better choice than a 997 GT3 imo due to age and usabity but you may want a newer 'manuel' in which case a 981 GT4 or Spyder takes some beating as a road car or maybe try getting a new 718 due in the Autumn (deliveries).

All these cars unlike some older stuff mentioned on here which are still depreciating and expensive to run due to their age are relatively cheap to run in view of their performance and depreciation is miniscule.

Spec is crucial though.

What are you going to do with it?

Mk1 Vanquish for something that's an event that may well appreciate and is one of the best looking cars ever.

MP4-12C for something ballistic.

If I had £100k to spend on a car, I'd look for a lightly used 991.2 Targa in an interesting colour.

Probably polish it.

I'd have to spend a lot to out-do the ridiculous gokart style fun I get from the Westfield - and I don't want to go more hard core and buy an Ariel

Not really sure what I want it for, I spent 30 years in London so didn't need anything flash as my car usually spent 5 days a week parked up. It's only in last few years with the purchase of the retirement home in North Wales that I've started to be interested in driving (over having a motorbike for thrills) and I'm in the right place to take advantage of something fun since I'm literally seconds from NSL roads without cameras

I've never been in the position to blow 100k on a car before (my wife say I'm still not!) So it could all be a pipe dream, but what else am I going to do, stick it in an investment with the rest of the money then die and leave it to my ungrateful nieces and nephews?

I'm not one to go to car meets, I do that with the kit cars and get bored, so I want something to drive, nimble for the roads we have here, and makes me feel good.

I feel an AM or Ferrari would be to much for the narrow roads or too cruisy (is that even a word?), And having had the cobra I'm not convinced a V8+ is suitable either as the roads are narrow and frequently wet, the cobra would lose the back end if someone licked their lips!

I did think exige as I loved the Elise I had, but having had the Elise it doesn't seem special enough for a once in a lifetime purchase, although it's probably ideally suited for up here.

I'm liking all the suggestions though, some I hadn't thought of, also got a 4c on my list after seeing one in the flesh

North Wales without cameras. Erm

I would be careful around NSL roads in that area. I have only been 3 times but all 3 times I saw a few police motorbikes just waiting. I was warned by my mate and didn’t believe it but they are there.

Hmmmm....

New alpine or not exotic enough? Not the sort of thing I'd sit and polish (hence got the vanquish, something I'd always wanted).

What about a classic? Need to be a certain sort of person though, I dipped my toe in and bought an xjs v12 convertible, awesome car but they need some love.

Your budget could buy a lovely 80's aston or a jensen?

Not bothered about depreciation... F-Type Svr and someone else mentioned an amg gts.

What was on your wall as a kid???

You need to know where they don't go 😉
I never go near the Evo triangle it's not worth it.

Advantage of the Westfield is of course you can have heaps of fun at 60 mph
