Forget £25k. Spend less than £2k on a well sorted RX8. Budget for a rebuild. Job jobbed.

Or just get any renaultsport if you don't mind front wheel drive.
I just read the OP's post that he is 19. OP do not buy any of the sportscars suggested. Do this ^^^^^ and put the rest away on a deposit on a flat.

Your friends will be properly impressed, for a short while, when you turn up in a Porsche/Lotus?Caterham and then they'll be royally miffed and you'll end up being the knob and no-one will want to hang out with you because you are just showing off. You may be attractive to the opposite sex for a while until you stop putting your hands in your pocket for them. Buy a good snotter that isn't too showy and move out of your parents house?

PS: I am old and therefore crotchety. Do as you wish but don't blame me if it all goes t1ts up.
Mmm I dont want a nice car just to show off, it's purely because I want to get my nose into the drivers car scene etc etc, as for the RX8 that's out of the question - insurance is 11k! I've also told myself I never want to live in a flat, my girlfriend and I are putting money into a side account alongside our expenses (this car budget included) to move to america as aforementioned, besides, I basically live in my parents shed which they've renovated into a bedroom/mancave thing for me(they have a big house) and pay rent each month (though its not much, £30 a week) so thats kinda like having my own place? biggrin

But you have so much money rattling around that it seems to me like you can purchase a flat (maybe not even an expensive one around where you live), rent it out and use the rental income to fund the trip to America (I am presuming that if you are moving to America you are sure you can actually move there and stay - it's getting very, very hard to do that unless you already have citizenship as Trump doesn't want immigrants taking jobs away from the rednecks!). For a 19 year old to buy a £25k car to 'get into the drivers car scene' means that you'll effectively be hanging around with a much, much older crowd, most of whom will seem it a bit odd to have a 19 year old hanger on. It usually takes half a lifetime of work to own such cars.

Yes I am able to get into the US as my girlfriend is still a US Citizen, though she has only just turned 18, and doesn't want to move until she's atleast 20, so I just rent out my parents shed as I said for myself and she lives with her dad, she could (legally) move out into a flat with me but she doesn't want to yet, which is fair enough, and I'd rather not live alone tbh. We've set aside a budget which would perfectly land us with the amount we need on her 20th birthday, so after that we can move over whenever we want after that. as for the "19 year old and a 25k car" thing, I agree it is unusual, but I got really lucky and landed in a good place, though I can see it is a bit odd as you said! I see where you're coming from but if im going to an old banger I might aswell keep the RCZ :P

If you're moving to America, wait until you move and then buy something like a Hellcat. Not a drivers car but a fking good laugh.

Fair enough LOL, part of the whole reason I want to sell my RCZ and buy a different/better car is because I can't import it into the USA tbh. I'd rather have something I can ship over to save me the hassle of buying a car over there with absoloutely 0 credit!!

Importing a car to the US is of course possible, but it becomes more difficult depending on the car and the EU safety standards compared to US. For example, there's only one VX220 in the US as far as I'm aware and it's a garage queen because to get it to pass US safety stuff would be a nightmare.

I lived in the US for two years recently (got back here last October) with work, you can get credit in the US without US credit history, though it is a bit more expensive obviously (higher interest rates), but not horrendously more.

Personally with what you've said now, I'd just save up whatever you plan to spend and put that towards something special in the US, as someone said, you can get an Evora in the US and they are rare out there. Depending on where you plan to live house prices are crazy cheap for what you can get too, so something else to consider.

I'd get a cheaper (sub £10k, or even sub £5k) drivers car to enjoy here and save the rest to enjoy in the US, bigger house, nicer car etc.

If you don't spend £25k here (and the other £8k-£10k a year on maintenance) you could, of course, save that money and buy something much more sporty in the USA with cash! Have you even looked into the cost of cars in the USA? You're not really thinking this through are you.

This thread is seeming more and more like a spoof. None of it really makes much sense.

Just wondering; she's your girlfiend, not your wife. I do not know for sure, since I haven't done the research (I am not planning a life changing trip to relocate to the USA) but are you absolutely sure you can move to the USA merely because you have a girlfriend who is a citizen of that country? I am fairly sure it doesn't work as easy as that. I wish you luck but there may be many hoops to jump through before citizenship is given, or even a working visa for more than a year (J1 I think). You may even have to 'put a ring on it', as mentioned by Beyonce! Plus, you are 19 and don't have anything to offer vis a vis a career. You seem like a nice chap so I hope it works out but there may be a lot of dreaming going on rather than factual, 'we can definitely do this', stuff.

They would need to be married, or possibly if he has an offer of sponsorship to work over there, but that's not a guarantee by any stretch. Marriage is probably the easiest way.

There is a lot of dreaming involved I'll admit, though we do know we can definitely do it, we are planning to "put a ring on it" as you say, and I have a few places who say they'll offer me a job so long as I successfully get into the country on a marriage visa. Of course nothing yet is set in stone, but that's the plan :P

Also for this being a spoof post, nice one... but if I was to make a spoof post, I'd make it a lot more interesting than this!!!! laugh

Going along with my last post, guys.. please, less life advice and more car advice laugh even if this doesnt happen for a few years I stlil want a drivers car that costs under 25k, and the people who are actually recommending me cars are giving me something to work towards in the USA if I don't get it now, it doesn't actually matter whether I buy it now or not, you're right, it is a bit stupid everything considered. BUT this thread prevents me from needing to make another one perhaps 2, 3, 4 or even 5 years down the line :P

I've driven one of these, it didn't give me much more excitement than my current RCZ, not sure I'd go for another one.
