what would you say is better out of the rx-7 and rx-8? I love the looks of the rx7 and I've heard the engine in the rx8 needs changing every 1000 miles laugh
RX7 all day. All rotaries need to be looked after.

I may have missed it but would this be your only car or just a weekend/track toy? Do you want FWD/AWD/RWD? Turbo? NA?

There are some excellent suggestions in this thread. if i had 25k and i wanted a good all round car (rather than just a stripped out track toy)...

BMW M3 of some variety
A variety of porsche
RX7
Mitsi Evo
R32 Skyline GTR
Renault megane RS280

the list could go on and on.....

I'm looking for a car that I can daily, but that would also handle well on a track.

Porsche Cayman. End of thread.
Lovely car but don't expect a gen 1 to handle track days without becoming a smokey mess.
That would be a crazy expensive Gen 1!! The OP's budget would buy a pretty decent Gen 2 S.

Is an Exige S or Elise S3 worth 10/15k more than a 370z Nismo? I'm in a similar situation and the 370Z Nismo seems appealing. Although I try and avoid it, lots of paths lead back to it. Rear wheel drive, manual box, hydraulic steering for a more connected feeling. It's a bit porky though and would struggle on track days. The Lotus cars would take a track day in their stride.
I must confess with the 350Z the lack of steering feel was my main criticism; in my opinion at least the steering was just heavy and dead. I've driven plenty of ePAS cars with better feel. The handling was good, engine strong, but I also felt it was more of a GT than a sports car; I think the platform sharing didn't do it any favours in terms of weight and size. 370Z similar? Or were they better?
I really like the hydraulic steering on my 370Z...but I'm not that much of a fan of electric steering(epas is just too light and over sensitive for me). The 370Z still suffers from the weight problem(a bit smaller than a 350Z though) but accept it as more of a GT and then it isn't so much of an issue imo.

yes Generally, yes, hydraulic is better on feel than ePAS. There is some overlap though; the 350Z was so devoid of feel that I prefer a good ePAS system.

Bit of a tangent but the Zenos E10 caught my eye - Any good?

One car that has not been mention and well under your budget is a Honda S2000. My son and I just recently purchased one, great little drivers car without the massive expense..

A friend has one, great car, fast too. Different than an Elise in that it's not quite as practical (not that my S1 is) and the characteristics of that ecoboost turbo engine.

Yes, just make sure you check the weather forecast before you head out...or pack a coat!

On the topic of these, do they have a cute little hood for when it rains?

You may have to travel to buy a very rare car, a few hours travel is insignificant over how long you own a car (unless you get pissed off with it in a few weeks!).

They have a get-me-home style hood.

OP, the Zenos needs plenty of thought. This is what Clarkson said about it in his review in the Sunday Times (Google is your friend)...

"Its designers have looked at every detail of what isn’t needed and simply thrown it away. Which means it has no doors, no windows, no sun visors, no radio, no carpets and no roof of any kind. I have encountered better-equipped pencils.

...the noise was fun for about a minute and then not fun at all thereafter. The exhaust bark is tremendous, but all you can hear really is the wastegate, which sounds like a fat man who’s using Victorian plumbing to flush away the after-effects of a particularly enormous dinner.

The steering became wearing too because it’s unassisted and very fidgety. It’s not as bad as the setup in an Alfa Romeo 4C, but it’s quite draining nevertheless.

And then, I’m afraid, we come to what might fairly be described as the turd in the swimming pool. The brakes. In a car with not much weight at the sharp end, the front wheels have a tendency to lock up. See the original Lancia Montecarlo for details."

The 987.2 Cayman S is worth considering as it has a roof, is an exceptional drive, is mid-engined, is in your price range, wont lose money hand over fist and you will love it. No doubt about that. Get the flappy paddle PDK version, it is a hoot! One of the best gearboxes on the planet!

Get a manual if you like driving

Or get a lotus evora/elise/ something lighter if you want better steering feel
