I'll be that guy...

Honda Jazz.

You'll get up to 55 mpg
rock solis reliability

surprisingly nippy if you drive it spiritedly

with the magic seats, you get more boot space than a car next size class up (focus size)

All this, if you can get past the image of being driven by a beige pensioner (although only the UK market suffers from this perception, other countries see the Jazz as being driven by young people, go figure)

One of my daughters has one and loves it. 2009 onwards is mk2, think they had a slight facelift around 2012. I'm not up with used prices but her's is an EX with the fixed glass roof and is pretty nice. Honda dealers are often pretty crap (a lot of the old independant dealers have gone now) but there's nothing unusual or complicated about the car so anyone can service and repair them.

Yes, facelift 2011, I think, I had a 2011 EX I ran for a while, zero issues, only got rid as the family expanded, only real issues I had was it needed a 6th gear and it got noisy at motorway speeds, using it as intended though it was a nice drive, vtec too so you could surprise people expecting you to be slow.

Have you got anymore info on the gearbox thing as ours are both fine but would be good to know just in case. Both 2014 models.
Not really, I read about them on threads on the owner's forum but didn't take note of specifics. If I recall correctly they used to develop problems around 50k miles but were not catastrophic although they were recurring.

I suspect as always with these things, it's so.ply something to watch out for. Change in noise etc, otherwise crack on.

Oh, should have added handbrake cables stretch. I'll be doing line soon but at least it's cheap and easy to do.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for it.

One of those Alfas isn't a million miles away from me I might have a look myself. By the way, always appreciate you taking the trouble to do this when anyone asks after a car.
No problem I'm happy to help, the Giulietta is a very good car & in Veloce trim represent great value for money as well as being reliable too.
