I thought I’d relay my recent experience. My wife’s A4 sport line PCH finishes in April next year. It was one of the mega deals from back in 2017.
Anyway she wants an Evoque or E Pace. I trawled online and spoke to 2 or 3 brokers. The best I could get on an Evoque 150 D S manual in metallic 3 plus 35 15k miles per year was £392 and a £200 fee. I called in to our local Land Rover dealer and they beat this price. They offered £384 and no fee so we signed up.
This will be our 3rd PCH, I’ve always given our local dealers the chance to get our business and always get one of 2 replies; you’ll never a get a car at that price or go and get the deal as we can’t get near it.
I do realise that value wise this is not the best but as I say it had to be an Evoque or E Pace.
Interesting that the best deal I could find was in the four walls of a dealership.

Thinking of something small hot hatch like but must be in stock as I need it this month.
Polo GTI or Golf GTi something like that. Looking at around 285 a month for the Polo and 340 for the golf which seems high to me.
Carwow had a polo GTi on a 3+48, 8k at £217 per month with £198 fee. When I looked last weekPolo GTI or Golf GTi something like that. Looking at around 285 a month for the Polo and 340 for the golf which seems high to me.

Be careful about the the Polo GTi. The regular GTi has some stuff you would expect missing as standard. The Polo GTi+ is much better spec but there are not great deals around.

Predicament - I am going round and round in circles and hoping someone who has been in the game for a while can give me some advice.
I picked up one of the great Listers Scirocco GT 2.0 Leases back in 2018, ending March 2020 (big deposit contribution, £203 a month but have since paid for extra miles so paying circa £260 for last few months).
I have a new job where I am travelling 50 miles a day and fuel is roughly £160 a month and then insurance around 40. Therefore I am spending around £460 per month on this car.
I have absolutely loved the car and as my first lease, loved the fact I know what costs are going to be each month, tax is sorted, roadside assistance provided etc, however, £460 is still £460 and wanting to buy my first home in the next year, if I can half that monthly cost, my savings would increase greatly.
I have automatically been drawn to a new lease (interested in A class', Leon Cupra's, A3's and some of the small SUV's but no real unbelievable deals like there used to be.
The next option would be buying a 3/4 year old car with a bank loan for around the 15-20k mark. In this instance I am probably going to be spending the same each month.
Finally I come to Electric Vehicles, be that either leasing, buying or otherwise (heard a bit about Evezy). Around 10k+ per year means a fair few quid on fuel (granted not as much as many people, but I could do with an MPG better than 35 (current approx).
Any tips or guidance of what I should consider would be greatly appreciated and helpful. There is only so much info online so personal advice is much more helpful. There of course isn't a correct answer but things to look out for would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

My brother just took delivery of one last week, very well specced considering how stingy BMW are with options. It does come with a reversing camera and front and rear parking sensors as standard. There are some other features that come as standard which I was surprised by such as auxiliary heating and adjustable side bolsters. Only thing I was disappointed by was the manually adjusting seatsDoes anyone know much about BMW M Sport's standard spec?

I think you are going to struggle to truly halve your monthly costs on a car unless you buy something really cheap outright and pray it does not throw up any big bills. That is always an option but often not considered worth the hassle or risk for many.I picked up one of the great Listers Scirocco GT 2.0 Leases back in 2018, ending March 2020 (big deposit contribution, £203 a month but have since paid for extra miles so paying circa £260 for last few months).

If you want to continue leasing, then your existing deal sounds like a reasonable one so in the current market you may struggle to save massively on the monthlies unless you massively lower your expectations of what car you are prepared to knock about in. For example, these Corsa sports seem to be coming in under £120pm inc VAT for 10k miles pa with only 3 months down. They are, however, 48 month deals so expect the monthly price to increase (at least a little) if you want either a 2 or 3 year deal instead.

Insurance at £40 - shop around, pay in lump sum etc and maybe save £5 per month.
Fuel at £160. Let’s assume your next car reduced it by 25%. Save £40 per month.
So my maths suggests you have £75 a month to fund a car. I guess that would lease you a car with a P11D value of £10k to £15k maybe.
So I think leasing is out.
So I guess it’s buy an older car on pcp. Maybe up to £6k or so?

I guess its not a case of cutting it in half as such, but using a fair amount of it towards saving. Thanks for the maths! All recommendations so far have been going for an older model around that 6k mark etc. I guess its a case of finding a model now and then hoping it doesn't fall to pieces over the couple of years ownership! Once I am in a house etc I am then hopefully going to be in a position to commit into something longer and betterInsurance at £40 - shop around, pay in lump sum etc and maybe save £5 per month.

Cheers man, just got off the phone with them unfortunately they only have metallic paints now so prices have all gone up!
Try speaking to Arval, speak to them directly and they might be able to sort something out. They always have different ones coming into stock, only downside is they have 36 month contractsGassing Station | Car Buying | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
