Its Winter, you just want something that works. Get the Yaris and a fresh set of cross climate tyres you will get any where you need to be with minimum fuss.

Not unless you want big bills.
Emissions on these are at the limit. Had ours 7 years until 2017.
Check out MOT history

The Jazz is a good car with an image problem (in the West at least...)

The Puma is a good car whose day has long gone for all but the enthusiasts

We live in a country with the greatest wealth and choice of good cheap cars in the world, you have so many options.

MK1 focus 1.6.

I'm running one. Bought it for £700 in March. MOT done the other day. Bearing in mind it's 14 years old and has done 115000 miles, it only failed on the handbrake. Got it adjusted and it cost £100 all in.

I'll keep running it until it dissolves or the cambelt snaps.
Is there no rust? I think that's been the big Mk1 killer, which is a shame.
My current MK1 1.8 is 'only' on 74k as do low miles each year but I think will run it into the ground. Great cars, nippy and just keeps going no matter the abuse I give. Been used for stop-start journeys last 10 years on the trot!

Thanks..no EP2's anywhere for my money unless they are knackered, and all the GTi's are very high mileage at my budget
I've got a EP gen Civic, it's a 1.6 executive which means body coloured trim, leather seats, air con, heated seats, & sunroof. Plenty around for under £1k. Reliable as Hondas are. Decent handling, even on budget tyres and practically sized too. I've fitted a fridge and rolled up double mattress in mine recently.

For 3k a year mileage, presumably around town driving, it's ideal for you.

1k should get you something half decent and there's not much to go wrong plus there a bit different .
Apart from chronic 90s Ford rust.

Methinks you have rather unrealistic expectations of sub £1000 cars smile

And I would think plenty of vehicles of a similar age / mileage that are subjected to UK road conditions would have slightly crusty brake lines etc.

Probably true about the break lines... but dont really want peeling paint

I take your point but my current car is ( soon was ) a 54 plate Fpcus diesel estate, £300 and has been no trouble at all..a bit scratched but vgc so know there are some out there

This is a just a random list of cars .

Go onto your local facebook marketplace / gumtree and then compile a list of what's available 30 miles from where you live ( if your happy travelling 30 miles to view a car )

Then decide how high a mileage car your willing to accept then whittle the list down even more.

I'd be very careful with a clio 1*2 or a mini cooper for a grand , they will have hidden issues , 1500-2k is a safer price for them.

How come your not just sorting your focus ?

You've said it's vgc and you know exactly what's been done to it rather than taking a lucky dip and starting all over again .

OP is a carer so this would be ideal for when his clients check out, could pay for itself by hiring it out as transportation for their nearest and dearest on their final journey!
