Thanks for the advice guys!
Still looking through all the options.
Right now I'm also looking at a 2015 M6 after the M5 suggestion.
Again if I can get one cheaper it may work out a better place for my money than a more expensive economical car. It just depends if an M6 is going to have £8k repair bills at some point.

Will Mondial cover massive bills if expensive stuff breaks?
Yes as long as the service schedule has been adhered to (by the main dealer or you can have an inspection taken out if it hasn't) it's the same company that deals with BMW's AUC cars so yes you are covered.nickfrog said:
Have you ruled out a M2, on the same basis as a M4?
Maybe I ruled out an M2 too quickly, I assumed they had similar engines to the M3 and M4 but it seems it's not as powerful which is better for me. I didn't want an M3 or M4 because everyone I've known who've had one have said the backend coming out all the time annoyed them and among other reasons they shifted them on pretty quick. If an M2 will get 35mpg on a runI'd defs consider it
I would say an Evora too. £40k should just get you into a well specced 2015 Evora S Sports Racer.

Very good in terms of depreciation, relatively cheap servicing (except for spark plugs), mine is typically £3-400 for each service but has been as low as £250, rare, sublime steering, copes fine with rush hour traffic.
I am on my second and both have been daily drivers. I put 20k miles a year on my first one

Love the look of these cars, think I would go for a grey one and black wheels.https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

The issue I have is they don't look very practical and comfortable on a day to day basis. I need something that has the ability to just cruise and eat up motorway miles.

Practicality for its type is ok. Boot holds squishy bags ok and back seat/shelf holds loads. I have had 4 spare wheels for the car inside.

With most cars this is a personal thing. Do you want to change gears manually, will you enjoy it, do you want to try to shift better and heel and toe and whatever. If the answer is no then go auto. I have the PDK box in my 981 and its great. Does that mean I have to do less - Yes. Is that a problem - Not for me. If the auto box in the car you're viewing is a bit rubbish then go manual. If its a modern clever box of tricks then go auto. If your use case is mainly boring commuting and the occasional blast then it makes sense to go auto if you ask me.
I'm commuting in my 996 at the moment and its fine. I dont resent it at all. Would I want the tip box - No. If I could switch the box to a modern PDK and keep the rest of the car unchanged I would do it. I think it would be great with the newer engine from my 981 and PDK box but keep all the old school buzz, whirrs, fizzes and feedback.

Is there a general consensus on the automatic version of the Evora?
I think for my city driving I'd like an auto
They got a hard time in early reviews but I understand improved significantly with software changes. I have the auto and love it. Auto is perfect in traffic in normal mode and great at speed in sports mode. Auto blip on downshift is completely awesome and addictive.I think for my city driving I'd like an auto
The whole car is very comfy for everyday driving, the seats are good, the ride is exceptionally compliant. Boot is bigger enough for golf clubs and you have the back seats if travelling with only 1 or 2 people.

Porsche Cayster xyz
Alfa would get my money, stunnning car, hardly moving in terms of depreciation, auto (for city driving), only a 1.8, really a special car.

My only surprise is there isn't much love for the F-Type in this thread!
