Yes, it’s basically a pre vs post facelift question. Should’ve just said that from the off really.

Company pay 425pcm so above that is my liability. In a Q7 then, I’ll be making some sort of contribution but it’s not the company’s fault I have too many kids and need a big car.

I was wondering about “smart cities” and IoT. Do you think the new model will get new connectivity updates improving sat nav maps etc? and other remotes enabled (or quick service visit) upgrades that the pre facelift will miss?

Other than that is there any other benefit in taking the new model if I factor in lower residual value?

Thanks guys (and gals). Rick

Are there actually any pre-facelift 50 TDi S-Line available? My boss bought his second Mk2 Q7 around April last year and they weren’t taking factory orders back then due to production switching to the facelift, he has to choose from stock and couldn’t get the exact spec he wanted.

They’re a nice car but depreciation can be savage. I get more car allowance and I have a used one if I was looking.

Slight tangent, but may be worth you knowing.

The MY2020 models went off production for technical fixes and all need recalls on front cameras which are a fire-risk with a slow back order on parts, my car (also sourced via DTD) was due for delivery 02/12/2019, but I’m only just going to get it on Thursday this week, having read other forums this is happening to all of them and hence yours may be delayed if you order a 2020. Not sure if this will be an issue for you??

Upshot for me was (having kicked up a fuss) I spent the interim in a well specced Q5 from enterprise at Audi’s expense, not something I’d buy myself but great when all I’ve paid is fuel.

I’d also suggest the interior is a big enough step up to warrant the money for me, sat in a 2019 which still felt good but was showing age already

Also, have a look at the Black Edition (if you don’t mind the looks) it came back cheaper than S Line as the 3 yr residual was approx 6k higher

Great info, thank you!

Delay is ok for me. Trying to negotiate my way out of a lease which ends 20/5 but deals are on taking them 31/3 for Q1 and plate change so a delay actually suits (sort of anticipating a delay, hence looking 4 months early).

Had a look at nearly new ones but the APr and balloon payments make it less attractive - why pay interest when you could pay for more car etc. Haven’t looked at 68/18 plates but might be worth considering.

I’d happily take a black edition but it’ll come down to what’s available in a 50TD in a few weeks time. Want to wait until mid feb really as that’s when I would release the mega deals if it was my business.

Interesting you say the interior looks dated. Does it look so dated you’d pay the 50-100pcm premium? The only blocker to paying the higher amount for a new one is twisting my better half’s arm, and justifying the cost to myself. I love a good deal and if I think it’s a good deal then I’ll be happy. Trying to work out if 22% off a 2020 is better than 28% off a 2019 (both “new” as in no former keepers but obviously the2020 is the new new one).

More insights like this please!

Also, DTD are saying all the 50TDs went before Xmas and only 45s are left, but I’ve seen some 50s in franchise websites so it might just be DTDs suppliers previously ran out. I’m hoping they’ll insource more from other franchises but who knows. Tanking a punt a bit.

I watched the prices fluctuate during my order process and then over Xmas/New Year during the delays they had a sale, I got mine at 22.1% off in November but then when the deal changed over Xmas to 25.2% off I demanded the dealer match. Mine is a Black Ed with C+S pack.

Theres no bad option between the 2019 or 2020, both will be great places to cover the miles. I ended up ordering the Q7 after initially ordering an A7 that had the updated dual screen interior so when I then looked at a 2019 Q7 it felt dated from that perspective. I’d suggest it depends on your intended ownership? I’m on a 3 year term and intend to keep for the duration , I get bored of my cars too easily, so hopefully the newer version will keep me happier in a couple of years time.

Something else to consider, not sure if the 2019 have air suspension as standard? The 2020 does and that was all important for me as the road near me and poor at best. Although even if steel springs it will still be comfy

I ordered a 50TDI s line 2020 MY for 27% off 2 weeks ago through DTD. You sure they don’t have any left? Mine arrives 1st week of March

I went for the facelift for a few reasons 1. Front looks dated on 2019 2. Air suspension as standard 3. Dual screen interior looks impressive

Edit - apologies not a very helpful post I just checked DTD and they seem to have all gone.

Thanks for the above. Leaning towards MY2020...IF there are actually any left. DTD day they’re all gone in the Xmas blitz but I have a hunch we’ll see one or two in the next 4 weeks with a good price as long as the order can be delivered by March. Everyone says they’re gone but I have this unexplainable feeling it’s going to be ok and more will magically appear (ever the optimist).

There are some MY2019 45s for 41k. Bargain. If I can get a MY2019 50td for <43 I’ll snap it up and can take delivery the next day for that price and just suck up the lease remaining costs. Spend 1500 to save 17k is a no brainier. If no more TD50 MY19 appear by, say, 28 feb I’ll take whatever is left in a 2020. And if they’re all crap deals too then I’ll lease an Xc90 or go mad and take a v90 estate T8 hybrid, 530d m sport or A6 estate on a 24m lease and wait for the next bargain.

Have you checked a broker? Out of curiosity I specced the following on drive the deal:

AUDI Q7 DIESEL ESTATE 50 TDI QUATTRO S LINE 5DR TIPTRONIC [C+S PACK] NEW MODEL

Options:

Metallic paint
Audi virtual cockpit plus
Electric panoramic glass sunroof
21" 5 twin spoke design alloy wheels in matt titanium with gloss turned finish
Tour pack with Adaptive cruise assist - Q7

Manufacturer's List Price On the Road: £64,395
Options: £6,175
Manufacturer's List Total £70,570
Discount (saving): £14,842
Discounted Price with options: £55,727

I think this price is conditional on taking the Audi Finance but you can pay that off when you take delivery - worth that aggro for 21% off. The A6, Q7 and Q8s seem to have insane discounts.

Careful with 2020 black edition.

It has a sports suspension that is pointlessly firm over the sline.

Sline air suspension is one of the best in the business they say.

They cannot demand this. Simple reason being; what happens when you leave / resign / retire / become unable to work ... they will not be taking the car off your hands.

It’s the norm to have rules with a car allowance. And they absolutely can demand it - it’s a simple deal, if you want £x car allowance you need to meet £y rules. Some employers will negotiate (e.g. lower allowance to bend the rules, reduced by a percentage if car is a bit older etc.).

And on the original topic - the my19 cars seem dated to me vs the my20, so I’d always take the newer one even though it costs slightly more! Will seem even more dated in a few years time...

Curious if the opinion on the Black Ed sports suspension is from a test drive? Or reviews etc?

I tested an S Line, which as you say was great, but ordered a Black Ed as it was cheaper for me, I am conscious I haven't experienced the sport suspension first hand. Already now wondering if its same components and altered software, may be fixable?

The contract has pre requisites like must be road legal (tax/mot as required), minimum 4 seats, kept clean and tidy etc but doesn’t state “less than 24 months old” or anything. It is, however, a certain expectation. It’s like working hours; if someone gives you £100 grand a year and a 37.5 hour contact (as an example. Perhaps one day, maybe) I wouldn’t expect them to switch their phone off at 17:00 every day and all weekend. They could, it’s not contractual that they don’t, but it’s not going to get them the end of year review they’re after and unlikely to deliver expectations. And before that whole saga begins I’m personally all for work life balance but that doesn’t mean things don’t go wrong after 1700 and if you’re on 100k the chances are it’s your job on the line if it isn’t fixed, or at least in progress by morning. Contractual or not, car allowance requires the recipient to act in a manner in keeping with the expectations of the role.

Interesting comment above ref black vs s line springs so that’s worth further conversation...
