Recommended small hatch for daily short commute

Hi!

I would love to get some recommendations for a small used hatchback.

It will primarily be for a short, but daily, commute - 7 miles. On B roads and city centre traffic.

Any standout recommendations?

Thanks @imck - budget up to £4k roughly.

I'm unsure whether to go for newer car - one of the models you suggest - or go slightly older and go for something like polo, fabia, swift, mini cooper etc...

The Swift gets recommended on here a lot if you are looking for Fiesta rather than KA size.

Clio good as well.

Hopefully ZX10R will come along with some good recommendations now you have given Budget and Size.

The sensible option if the Fiesta Titanium but for me the top 3 is:

Mito Cloverleaf who doesn't want 170bhp in their life & it's a sinch to add DAB etc

208 THP it's the right mix of age pace & spec

City cars like those are, IMHO, too compromised for longer journeys, faster roads, safety and practicality. For your budget I'd suggest looking at Renaultsport Twingo (I wouldn't bother with the cooking versions) and Swift (1.2 or Sport), and maybe the Renaultsport Clio 172/182 if you're feeling a bit braver. They're only slightly bigger, but a lot more capable.
