So OP have managed to test drive any of your shortlist?
Sorry I'm delayed in getting back to you (all).

I actually haven't. Had a job interview out of the blue on Tuesday and they provide a car allowance so I'm holding out a bit longer to hear back about it. Will make a decision when I find out.

Theres a a Q50S Hybrid down the road from me which I'm still tempted to test drive regardless. Really intrigued!

I'll keep you posted when I get behind a few smile

Audi A6 AllRoad - 3.0D
Something like this :
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202...

Driven carefully I saw *just* 50mpg. regularly on a run 40-45mpg. Air suspension for comfort, you can raise the ride height and it locks the 4wd (I believe) in 'All Road' mode.
Has enough shove if kicked.

Through some decent tyres on it - Cross Climates were £100 a corner and youve all the car you could ever want.

Great all rounder

ETA - because PH - you can take the 4.2L 345hp, V8 version instead. and spunk the £10k saving on the fuel. I don't think they do the previously acclaimed 50mpg smile

Do you own one of these?

See the Scout may be the smarter (well, cheaper option) but for me the A6 Allroad has the aesthetics.

What is the reliability like of the Allroad models?
Own as in - have one, yes. Not either of those explicitly though.

I had a 2014 plate base A6 Allroad, now have a 2016 AllRoad Sport with a pano roof and lots of toys.

Have to agree with you the aesthetics are right for me and the comfort etc great. The '14 car could *just* touch 50mpg if carefully driven. This newer one runs ad blue and another 50hp, see just 45mpg if driving v carefully.

What with this advent to EV, I do see the Allroad I have a keeper - and living in the Yorkshire moors, it is a great all rounder that covers many tasks. Smart enough for work, comfy, family holdall, can tow 2.5Te, 4wd etc.Less shoutey than an new SUV.
The first one I bought from a guy on the top of the Pennines and had some Winters on all year round on the 19in Rims. Cross Climates a bargain at £100 a corner. Smart move.
The one one I have now has the 20inch wheels. All Seasons are like rocking horse st in the size they are and were £245 a corner frown

Reliability - all good until I heard a noise grow from the gearbox in the first one. Turns out a worn syncho in 4th was surfacing. (6sp Auto)
I went to claim on the FASH Warranty, and the dealer said the previous owner had missed the 38k Gearbox oil change. So warranty would not cover it. Long separate story

I off loaded and bought the new one as I was reading a new box was circa £10k.

Very happy other wise and have a "Gearbox oil" post-it note on my desk to do in this car in 3,000 miles !
Haven't found an Audi dealer I have faith in though frown

Huge Bork Potential here

If honestly concerned about all weather ability and looking at 3 series\a4 sized cars just get an Octavia Scout.
How does the Scout fair on Motorways and B-roads? Still a good ride?
If I had to buy one car for a family that was spacious, value for money and would get me where I needed to go in comfort it would be this.
