Hi guys, just looking for advice/opinions.. handing back a Volvo xc40 next month following a 36 month PCH doing a little over 13k miles in that time.

Car supplied via local Volvo dealer and Santander as the lease company.

My question relates to end of lease charges in particular the windscreen and a what would you do situation. There is a 12" scratch in front of the driver (not cracked) which is just about deep enough you can feel with finger nail (if you really try). Assume wiper blades dragged some dirt or grit across the screen.

My dilemma is do I get this replaced or would it fall under wear and tear which allows light scratching providing it doesn't interfere with the drivers line of sight. It's this wording that I find subjective as what is classed as interference? You can still see everything ahead of you without a restricted view.or distraction.

Any idea what Santander would charge for a replacement windscreen? Would you leave it and wait and see or just bite the bullet and get it done before handing back?
Careful you don’t get a crack and have to get it done on the insurance.

Hi guys, looking for your opinions/advice. I've been offered a 12 month extension (same terms) by VWFS on my Kamiq lease which was due to end in June. It was a 2 year deal (£160 pm). Is there any likely costs associated with taking another 12 months. I do about 12k miles a year, would I be in new tyre or brakes territory with that mileage ?
I have been approved for a Cupra Leon on a 6/23 at £204 pm for delivery in June, which is a cracking deal in today's money, but it would still work out a lot more expensive over the 12 months from June than continuing with the Kamiq.
I'm 50/50. Help a guy out please.

The main reason I do 24 month deals historically is the simple fact I want to have a low cost vehicle, avoid major costs like tyres, servicing, MOT’s, wiper blades, brakes etc etc. Also want it to be under warranty throughout.

A close mate of mine didn’t get her act together for a new lease and has pushed a 3yr Kamiq into a 1 yr extension. It has required 4 tyres, wiper blades, an additional service and has developed a knocking from the front suspension that will need sorting out of warranty. No brakes or pads yet but it’s through 35k now and can’t be far off.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I've always done 2 year leases for the same reasons. All of the above is my 'fear', although at least I would have another 12 months under warranty. It's weighing up what it would cost me in tyres/brakes versus the first year cost of the new lease (actually £1900 more factoring in all the costs). I think part of my dilemma is I'm not overly struck on the Leon. It would mean going back to a manual, it's white and looks to be more expensive to run.

New to leasing, signed up work to the electric car scheme to save some tax spend and get no congestion charge for the next couple of years on the family wagon. Quick (probably stupid!) question. What should I expect upon delivery? Is this coming from a dealer directly that will do a handover and show me how everything works? A lease company that will drive it up to my door? A transporter with someone who dumps it on the driveway says "sign here" and then leaves?

This is through Arnold Clark if it makes any difference.

Ours were all driven to us. Quick handover, then they get a taxi to the train station !

Thanks guys. Curious as to the people who it was driven to, how many miles did it have on it upon arrival? This is a brand new car, hoping it doesn't get driven south from Scotland!

Delivered from Crewe Audi to SW Scotland
7 miles on clock when dropped off the trailer

You need to ask the lease co if this makes you nervous 'cos every transaction is different.

Even if mine was driven delivery I would not have cared it's a lease (rental) car after all.

Stable Vehicle contracts did say it would be driven delivery

Depends on the manufacturer, I leased a Citroen from a Scottish dealer (Scottish plates) and it was prepped/delivered from a centre somewhere in the south-east of the UK I think.

I think it can depend on what's in your contract and where it's coming from, I seem to recall that delivery mileage can go against your allowance. An extreme example : 5k/PA lease and a 600 mile delivery distance might be something to try and avoid, if possible!

Tyres you could figure out. Look up the brand and model, see how much tread they came with when new and then figure out the rate of wear by measuring the tread depth now.

Can get brake pads and disks checked out at a mechanics too, or take a front wheel off yourself and have a look. LOADS of pad and disk replacement videos and tutorials out on youtube these days.

Will they want another service and MOT before you give the car back? There is the cost of that as well.

I think at the end of the day, it comes down to how much you like the Kamiq over the Leon. Looks like it might be a similar cost either way if you have to include a couple of front tyres, MOT and service. Can totally understand why you are 50/50.

I've had a couple of driven deliveries and they've had around 150-200 miles on the clock on arrival. I'm in central Scotland though.

Interestingly, I always ask how the car will be delivered and usually they say driven but twice now it's arrived on a trailer anyway.

My last 2 cars (Audi A5 and Hyundai Santa Fe) arrived on a trailer but were absolutely filthy on arrival, having sat in a muddy compound for weeks before delivery.

However your cars gets delivered I wouldn't get my hopes up for a shiny dealer style experience. They'll probably chuck you the keys to a dirty car and be on their way.

but if you put the clicks in and find a deal then they were.....as expected
As expected - as in? Good/bad/indifferent? The deal and price were through VIP Gateway and on the basis of chasing the deal not the car it's not TOO bad in the current climate. It was the tales of problems when returning that were concerning.
He's talking salary sacrifice though, which often seems like a bit a rip-off - someone's making a lot of money by nicking the tax savings off employees.
Our salary sacrifice scheme is with Tusker, and I thought that they were expensive. Until I realised just how expensive cars are now...!

I've got an i5 with a few options arriving later this week - it's costing me £695 net a month via salary sacrifice, for 15k a year over 4 years at a 45% marginal tax rate.

A quick look on the BMW site shows they'll do an i5 PCP over 4 years / 10k miles a year for £4,500 down and eye watering £1,120 a month. The gross deduction for 'my' car is a little over £1,200 a month.

So I reckon I am saving the £4,500 deposit, say £4,000 years for 4 years insurance, 3 services (£750?), 5 pairs of tyres (3 at the back and 2 at the front) at £1,500 and the difference between £1,120 and £695 for 48 months - another £20,400. A total of a little over £31k - less than the £33k I will actually spend via Tusker and probably not far off a 45% saving. My employer keeps the NI saving to themselves, which on a monthly payment this high is annoying... The problem is these cars are just (too?) expensive.

Now clearly no-one actually pays the78 £odd k these things cost, so I am sure Tusker are still making plenty of money. But I am not sure I could get such a good price privately, or that I could lease one for that price personally yet either. For the time being at least...

In my case no, as my employer bases contributions on the pre sacrificed value, which is also how it works out the death in service and life cover benefit as well. But definitely one to look out for, as if they didn’t the impact could be high!

Quick question I have been searching on here for a while but cannot find an answer.

I had my lease vehicle go back to VWFS at the start of the month, when would you expect to a invoice for excess mileage charges? I have already had the vehicle appraisal report from BCA saying vehicle is condition A with no damage.

Thanks in advance

About 8 weeks from experience for the excess milage invoice to appear. They’ll take payment by DD if you didn’t close the authority.

Assume milage was agreed at handover with BCA.
