Windscreen chip at end of lease - this is about 1cm across, low down, approx 4/10ths across from nearside.. repair replace or leave? PSA, if that makes any difference
I suggest that you call the finance company and ask what their wear and tear guidelines are regarding chipped windscreens. As an example, hitachi’s end of lease guide says
“Damage in excess of 10mm in the driver’s line of vision (a vertical strip 290mm wide centred on the steering wheel), or in excess of 40mm elsewhere in an area swept by the wiper blades is NOT acceptable”
You may be able to avoid a repair depending on the guidelines. The only concern would be if you bounce the car down a pothole the day before collection, and the chip becomes a crack
Edit to add- I see you also said the chip is low down. When I had to get a low down chip repair to my S3, I was told that if the chip is within a specific distance from the bottom of the screen, it must be replaced and not repaired. I can’t remember how far exactly though, sorry

Any experiences of extending a lease with Leaseplan?
I'm 2 years into a 3 year lease and looking at the current deals not hopeful of finding a decent replacement.
Lease is fully maintained so warranty hopefully not an issue.
I had a 2 year lease with leaseplan, they offered 10% discount for a 12 month extension and 5% for 6 months.I'm 2 years into a 3 year lease and looking at the current deals not hopeful of finding a decent replacement.

I was umming and aaahing when they let slip I could informally extend at the same rate which is what I went for. For the sake of £20 per month I prefer to keep my options open.

Thanks to this and the other leasing thread, I managed to effect an informal lease on my current Tiguan 1.4TSI
- picked up on 9x24 in March 18 at £181 per month.
- extended for 12 months which reduced payments to £141
- Approached VWFS to extend for 6/12 months - quotes coming in at £450 pm
- PH recommended informal extension.
- boom, 6 months extension at £141 per month.
Result!

Folks,
Firstly apologies if this has been covered. I'm looking for advice/previous experience in relation to a dealership producing the wrong paperwork which unfortunately my Wife has signed.
Essentially she has signed paperwork for a PCH without maintenance however all communication, including a pdf created by the business manager 2 days before she collected the car, is all for PCH with maintenance.
The car developed a fault on Xmas which has been fixed. The car needs 2 new tyres and I told them to replace as we have a maintenance agreement.
The said we didn't and this is where all the issues have arises.
They are washing their hands off it, so I've sent an email to ALD with previous communication,.PDF's of quotes etc.
Realistically what's our chances of them admitting they are at fault?

It’ll come down to the differences in the monthly payments for with/without maintenance. If your wife signed an agreement that explicitly showed monthly payments without, that is the agreement that you have. The quotes are irrelevant IMO.Firstly apologies if this has been covered. Also, some maintenance agreements do not include replacement of consumables such as tyres, brake pads etc. So best to check exactly what you have.
Good luck

Anyone know if end of lease collections will be able to go ahead in this lockdown? I heard stories of a lot abandoned lease cars in the first/March lockdown that couldn't be collected, mine is due back on Friday.
Mine is due back next Friday I’m keen to find out as wellOnly put the winter wheels on it a month ago, got to take the buggers off again now.....
It says “service due in 1 week” but as it’s a French car the messages on screen often bear no reality to the truth. It was serviced on the 17th Jan last year and should be due by that date, but if the conditions based servicing decides it’s earlier than that, might stitch me up even if I arrange collection this week..
Worth a try though.

Can I get the pros & cons of putting down a high deposit for a lease? I know the obvious disadvantage of the initial outlay (& possible better use of the cash etc) but any others? What happens if the finance company goes bust?
I am considering leasing for 3 years & looking to put down 10k as initial downpayment; a couple of reasons: 1) overall cost is slightly cheaper 2) monthly outgoings are low & if i do decide to move and require a mortgage, my outgoings will look low.
May be a flawed thought process but any advice would be welcome.

I think it means you will need gap insurance. If you write it off or it’s stolen you don’t want to be out of pocket I am considering leasing for 3 years & looking to put down 10k as initial downpayment; a couple of reasons: 1) overall cost is slightly cheaper 2) monthly outgoings are low & if i do decide to move and require a mortgage, my outgoings will look low.

Apologies but not sure I am with you? Do you mean that if the car gets stolen in month 2 (for example), the money I have paid in is a lost cause & I will still be liable for the shortfall of the car's cost? So double whammy in effect?Gassing Station | Car Buying | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
