As you said, fairly standard and I didn't see anyone complaining about it. My currently ordered car will be coming with dealer contribution as well, and it's all mentioned on Order form.
My last two were the same - I agree its a pretty normal VWFS way of doing things. In fact on a Golf Mk.7 I had in 2016 I actually had possession of the car and the dealers cash contribution in the bank before I had paid one penny!

Does anyone know how long the lead time is likely to be on a Volvo XC40 lease? Current lease is due to go back 10th May so I think I'll probably need to sort something out soon.
Can’t comment on the XC40 specifically, but I’ve just ordered an A6 and they are 12-14 weeks. I need mine at the beginning of May so just in time if it goes to plan.Bear in mind, it will take the best part of a week to get everything signed / approved / ordered, and that’s after spending another week or 2 finding a good deal.
I would say you really should have already started looking, they can always keep the car a few weeks if it’s early.
Am guessing vwfs are keen on getting their assets back and sold to make the most of current market prices. My leon cupra is due back May I was happy for it to go actually as its barely turned a wheel in the past 10 months. Thought out of curiosity I'd just see what a formal extension would look like as it wouldn't cost me a service to keep it another 12m. Payments jumped from £295 to £497!
And that was keeping the original 16k total contract miles over the 3 years!

A few scuffs on my car that is going back in May.
I may get in touch with a mobile scuff repairer and if it is <£150 then have it repaired.
I’m guessing something like this could be charged at a full bumper repair £50-£300
I doubt they'd even record that. I may get in touch with a mobile scuff repairer and if it is <£150 then have it repaired.

But as stated above, most of that will polish out easy to save it even being noticed. Or if you know anyone with a polisher a couple of passes will have that well hidden.

Has anyone had there VW serviced at a local garage instead of VW Stealer and gotten away with it. My local VW are next to useless and a complete bunch of liars so I dont want to take it there they also want £280 for basically an oil change. My local garage who are very good will do it for £140 inc VW parts. My contract does say it must be a dealer it just pains me to pay them anything.
You must do whatever your contract agreement says. Different people have different contracts. Some people say as long as you use genuine parts you will be fine, that’s only correct if that’s what their contract says.If your contract says you must go to a VW dealer... then your other options for servicing, without penalty, are limited.
If you can use an independent make sure their invoice confirms that VAG parts were used. Had both a Audi and Seat done at an independent. Both were logged on the Audi/Seat service record, and no problems at all at collection time.

when the car is PDI'd you need to insist it is set to variable if you want it to be (which you should). In writing.
Perfect. Thanks. I assume you ask the broker this?
So, my lease is due to go back next week.
The leasing agent brought the inspection (by Techinspect) forward to today at the last minute "due to the weather", which resulted in a note on the inspection sheet that they were unable to do more than a cursory inspection due to the fact that it wasn't cleaned (because I didn't have time) and it was covered in snow.
The result of the inspection was exactly as expected, but I've mailed the leasing agent to tell them that I don't really know what sort of liability their note about the condition and limited inspection leaves us with (as both factors were entirely outside of my control). I'm planning to give it a clean before it goes back, and will take photos to cover my backside.
Has anyone experienced similar?
